Just preliminary right now, my plan here is to focus contributors into groups will specialized tasks, so that it's more clear to everyone what role they can play and what they can contribute.

As such I'm holding signups for the following roles:

Pre-reader: The pre-reader's job is to look through our Pokedex (http://www.pokemontopaz.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?26-Caldera-Kirant-Pokedex) and bring up any flaws or issues that need to be addressed. Just a log topic in the Moves/Items section would be good.

Content: The content contributor's job is to fill out the actual pokemon.txt file, tutorial coming soon. Each contributor will be assigned Pokemon evolution lines to complete, to be submitted back to me so I can compile them.

Editor: The editor will look through the pokemon.txt file for errors, fix them and report them.

So, sign up if you want to contribute to basically the most important project right now!

I'm no good at analysis, but I'd bet anything that Zenith would sign on as a pre-reader; I would not.

Content, however, would fit me better. Or Editor. Either one.

Okay, let's see how others sign up then.

Hmmmm I've always wanted to help and this seems easy enought I guess.... I guess I'll sign.

EDIT: owait... I have to have the Contributor status? If so then never-mind. But if I CAN sign up I think Content or Editor is something I can do.

EDIT: owait... I have to have the Contributor status? If so then never-mind. But if I CAN sign up I think Content or Editor is something I can do.

I believe that by "contributor" IB means "people who (want to) contribute", not just people with the "badge" to prove it.

Content or Editor is my choice, too. Perhaps our content people could switch to editor once everything is done? We'd just want to make sure that no one edits the content that they did.

Switch over is definitely an option. And yes, by contributor I meant it in the way of "person who contributes" rather than the status itself.

And I am in the slightest bit hoping that Zenith will notice this and sign up as a pre-reader, but we can work fine without one.

I guess I don't mind 'Pre-reading' If all it is is looking for typos or something.

ImmunityBow

Typos as well as outdated information. For instance, there's still a lot of "Avalanche" and "Bug Bite" in Pokemon movesets that should be Freeze Crush and Bug Burn since the name change. It's a bit of a difficult job since there's a lot of Pokemon movesets where the evolutions say something like

MOVE / BASIC / EVO 1 / EVO 2
Sacrifice / --- / --- / ---
Fire Blast / 15 / --- / ---

When it should properly be --- / --- / 1 to indicate it can be relearned by the final stage and 15 / 15 / 15. It takes a lot of judgment and decisiveness. If you don't feel you can handle that then I think a content/editor position is probably better.

If the pokemn.txt thing is html-ish (like you said) I cud help :)

Basically, you just fill out a form like this:
[1]
Name=Bulbasaur
InternalName=BULBASAUR
Kind=Seed
Pokedex=Bulbasaur can be seen napping in bright sunlight. There is a seed on its back. By soaking up the sun's rays, the seed grows progressively larger.
Type1=POISON
BaseStats=45,49,49,45,65,65
Rareness=45
BaseEXP=64
Happiness=70
GrowthRate=Parabolic
StepsToHatch=5120
Color=Green
Habitat=Grassland
EffortPoints=0,0,0,0,1,0
Abilities=OVERGROW

Height=0.7
Weight=6.9

For every pokemon. (Source: http://pokemonessentials.wikia.com/wiki/Creating_new_Pok%C3%A9mon.)

Tyrannigon64

Something's wrong with that form; Bulbasaur is a Grass-Poison type, not just a Poison type.

Cyndadile
09-10-11, 08:59 PM
I think you get the point. Anyways, I just tore that example from the wiki.

Also, I wasn't aware that the wiki community started updating Essentials. Are we using the newest version?

ImmunityBow
09-11-11, 01:28 AM
I don't know, I suppose we'll assume we are until some sort of compatibility issue tells us that we can't. I think it'd save us some work in the long run to just use the newest version.

@ Tyrannigon: Are you up to help out with this?

Tyrannigon64
09-11-11, 01:51 AM
I'll help. I guess I'll be a pre-reader, and I'll probably help with content too. Something I've noticed: none of the Topaz Pokemon have their EV yields listed anywhere. There's something else I could do. Actually, I'll probably just do the EV yields first, then I'll be pre-reader/help with content after.

Alright guys, I really don't have time to build a tutorial straight up, so I'm going to post some useful instructions/links and assign lines straight away so you can get started.

Name=
InternalName=
Kind=
Pokedex=
Type1=
BaseStats=
Rareness=
BaseEXP=
Happiness=
GrowthRate=
StepsToHatch=
Color=
Habitat=
EffortPoints=
Abilities=
Compatibility=
Height=
Weight=
GenderRate=
Moves=
EggMoves=
Evolutions=
BattlerPlayerY=0
BattlerEnemyY=0
BattlerAltitude=0

And here's an example of a completed entry:
Name=DIONARE
InternalName=DIONARE
Kind=Carnivorous
Pokedex= DIONARE hides deep in forests where the sun's rays do not shine. It wraps up prey with its vines in the darkness, and swallows it whole.
Type1=GRASS
Type2=DARK
BaseStats=85,105,95,80,80,80
Rareness=45
BaseEXP=209
Happiness=70
GrowthRate=SPORADIC
StepsToHatch=5120
Color=Green
Habitat=
EffortPoints=0,2,1,0,0,0
Abilities=OVERGROW
Compatibility=1,7
Height=1.9
Weight=160.5
GenderRate=FemaleOneEighth
Moves=POUND,1,LEER,1,WINEWHIP,7,ASTONISH,10,MUDSLA P,10,SWEETSCENT,13,RAZORLEAF,16,BITE,21,WRAP,25,BO DYSLAM,33,CRUNCH,36,GIGADRAIN,41,GROWTH,46,TAUNT,4 6,FLORALSTORM,52,AMBUSH,57
EggMoves=
Evolutions=
BattlerPlayerY=0
BattlerEnemyY=0
BattlerAltitude=0

And here's a brief explanation of each field:
Name=name of the pokemon
InternalName=same as above, used for programming
Kind=pokedex info. for example, bulbasaur is the seed pokemon
Pokedex=pokedex entry
Type1=The pokemon's primary typing
Type2=Secondary typing. This field is optional
BaseStats=6 numbers, seperated by commas. HP,ATK,DEF,SPEED,SATK,SDEF (Importaint: speed is not in the usual place at the end)
Rareness=catch rate. If you can't find it, just put 45.
BaseEXP=number for generating exp when this pokemon is defeated.
Happiness=starting happiness of a pokemon. Usually 70, with some exceptions.
GrowthRate=how quickly exp is gained. See possible values below.
StepsToHatch=How long an egg takes to hatch. If there is no data, just put 5120
Color=The pokemons color. Find it on the dex forum
Habitat=Optional.
EffortPoints=6 numbers between 0-3. in the same order as base stats.
Abilities=Possible abilities. Capitalize, no spaces.
Compatibility=Egg groups. One of 15 values, see below
Height=dex info
Weight=dex info
GenderRate=How many pokemon are female. See possible values below
Moves=The moves learned upon level up. Moves are all caps, no spaces and followed by the level.
EggMoves=If the pokemon is first stage, enter possible egg moves here in caps, no spaces, separated by commas
Evolutions=If the pokemon evolves, then put the pokemon evolved into, the type of evolution, and level. Most will be something like TRAPLENT,level,16, but if its something else leave it blank and I'll enter it in when I compile everything.
BattlerPlayerY=0 Don't worry about these fields. I don't even know why I put them here.
BattlerEnemyY=0
BattlerAltitude=0

Pokemon are part of one of these growth types:
Fast
Medium
Slow
Parabolic -Starters
Erratic
Fluctuating
(Enter as shown here, not all caps like other entries)

Egg groups:
1 = Monster
2 = Water1
3 = Bug
4 = Flying
5 = Ground
6 = Fairy
7 = Plant
8 = Humanshape
9 = Water3

For EXP rates, instead of "Medium Fast" or "Medium Slow" just put "Medium" (I don't know why it was merged). Starters are "Parabolic". In the level-up moves, replace --- moves on evolutions with the level they got it at on their previous evolution (so Sweet Scent is level 13 on Venap, Traplent and Dionare, not --- on Dionare, etc. etc.)

This should give you everything you need:
http://www.pokemontopaz.net/forums/showthread.php?1031-Pokemon.txt-help!&p=21232&viewfull=1#post21232

So for Fincherp the steps to hatch would be 3840, EffortPoints is 0,0,0,1,0,0. Egg Moves should be on its dex topic in the Caldera/Kirant Pokedex forum.

It is DOUBLETEAM. For Habitat, just use your own judgment. It doesn't really have any effect on the game anyhow, except for extremely, EXTREMELY astute people who, say, realize that Cirroft should be Mountain and not Unknown or something when they see it in the Pokedex.

As for PikangX, I've looked over yours quickly and everything seems fine. The wiki doesn't say anything about TMs, I'm assuming you assign Pokemon to the TM and not the other way around. Your next assignment is (you guessed it) Sandshrew/Sandslash.

I started out by looking at the Lupine entry on the site...and immediately realized something.

Canileaf evolves upon defeating a Wolfrost? Is that possible? I've already asked the main 'crat on the Pokemon Essentials wiki, so hopefully we'll find out soon.

If it's not possible, we'll have to come up with something new...maybe environmental evos, like Leafeon and Glaceon? Those would seem to fit both Lupine and Huskii's lines well enough...

If you want an easier way to collaborate work, I can install mediawiki for private use on Topaz.

ImmunityBow
10-06-11, 08:41 PM
I think this is probably fine. The page parsing here is really useful because the whole file is too big for some people to open. Great work, PikangX, just continue on, I guess, until someone else finishes their assignment.

zeroality
10-06-11, 09:33 PM
Alright, but just saying MediaWiki keeps page history (and more) and allows multiple people to be working on the same thing without conflicts (wiki has built in system to prevent cross-edits).

It'd be easy to see who's doing what, etc. I think it's worth considering if you find that you have a lot of work similar to this down the road.

ImmunityBow
10-07-11, 03:25 PM
For now I think it's best to keep it close to home as possible, it's not too difficult just to assign different lines to different people, and under this system there isn't any ambiguity of who's doing what anyway. Thanks for the suggestion though, it might be useful to test run Mediawiki with something less crucial to get people familiar with it later.

Konrad
10-07-11, 04:48 PM
I've got two important things to tell you guys.

The first concerns pokemon.txt. The level up moves need to have the level number FIRST and then the move name.

Second, the essentials kit was updated a few days ago. I don't know much about the changes yet but I am downloading it and testing it to see if the lag bug was fixed. If it was, I'll move the data to the new version.

On the Fincherp line page, I think Eaglair's backsprite is outdated. There's a different one on the site.

ImmunityBow
10-09-11, 06:19 PM
Okay, looking good, I think. Eaglair gives Attack and SpDef EVs... that's kind of weird. I know those are Eaglair's two highest stats but intuitively players would probably go to Eaglair for Speed EVs since it'd always outspeed them. Should we change it?

Also, zeroality seems to have changed the cms so that I no longer can access any of the image content from the site, even the page editor has transparentimage.png listed as the image source. So I'll have to ask him for a workaround of that first.

Cyndadile
10-09-11, 10:32 PM
I noticed the EV thing too... I thought that since Fincherp gives one speed and Gashawk gives two, it would make sense that Eaglair gives three, or two speed and one of something else. Also, doesn't Aerodynamic double speed, so the highest stat is speed?

Also, could we keep a list of pokemon that still need to be done? I know that Firant, Pyroon, Pyreign, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Lupine, Canileaf, Wolvine, Jalsida, Spoink, Grumpig, Spidream, Arachmare, Fincherp, Gashawk, and Eaglair.

An issue I noticed with Canileaf's entry: isn't the entry saying that it evolves at level "Defeat WOLFROST"?

Blade Flight
10-09-11, 11:30 PM
I just put that there as a half-placeholder dealie, Cyndadile. Don't worry, it's not by level.

ImmunityBow
10-10-11, 01:57 AM
I think instead of listing what needs to be done, it's simpler just for us to go in order and I assign lines. Of course if you've done your assignment and haven't gotten another one yet, you can work on the next line.
So in this case;

PikangX: Pineco line
Cyndadile: Embear line

zeroality

Also, zeroality (sucks)

Fixed it.

As far as i can see, everything looks good. No jarring errors. Unfortunately, i don't know all the intricacies of the pokemon.txt, so i can't say for sure that everything is where it's supposed to be. ^^''

Wait! There is a space within Temper on both sets, and within the Flame of Flamewheel in Mankey's egg moves. Also, aren't some of those supposed to be two words, not one?

It's a strange glitch; it's actually all one word, but somehow the forums are splitting up the words.

For Egg Groups, you need to use both, regardless of whether the Pokemon belongs to 2 or not. If it's only one, then do it twice (so Mankey is 5,5).
Also, please post it as CODE. That circumvents the random spaces.

Here's the Moocalf line. A couple of notes:
HappinessMale and HappinessFemale do not exist as evolution methods but should be easy to code since it's just changing one preset variable.
I eliminated the levelup moves from Moocalf's moveset since the male/female nature would require two Pokemon, which wouldn't allow for Egg Moves, which defeats the whole purpose of Moocalf in the first place. The evos learn those moves by levelup anyway.

In case anyone wishes to know, there's no need to do Inflare line next since it isn't in the demo. We should rather focus on the ones that people have been assigned but haven't done yet, as well as the Barkub Line, Scorchion, the Murkrow Line, the Equill Line, and possibly Tropius and a couple of others. Those ones will be seen since they are in Gym Leader's lineups.

NyteFyre if you'd like to focus on the dex writeups for those, I'd be super grateful.

Actually, IB, I don't do so well when just told to 'go nuts' and do what I wish....I start wondering where I should start, what I've done, what I haven't done, and end up getting nothing done at all. If you could just give me a set to start on, and feed me new ones as I finish, I think things will go much smoother.

Definitely. How about the Skalloy Line, Duskull Line and Cascadet?

NyteFyre
11-04-11, 11:47 PM
hmm. The Duskull line is not present in the Dex area, and I couldn't find it in the search. It seems the only information we have on them is the revamp that SS has made, and that doesn't include basic stats, classification, and the other specifics. I'm unsure where to go from there...I'll just skip it for now, and move on to Cascadet.

I have finished the other two lines, and have sent them to you, IB

I'm pretty sure the Meowth Line has been revamped, since we gave Persian Cunning as a new ability.

NyteFyre
11-07-11, 07:26 PM

Pokemon are part of one of these growth types:

(Enter as shown here, not all caps like other entries)

Egg groups:
1 = Monster
2 = Water1
3 = Bug
4 = Flying
5 = Ground
6 = Fairy
7 = Plant
8 = Humanshape
9 = Water3
10 = Mineral
11 = Indeterminate
12 = Water2
13 = Ditto
14 = Dragon
15 = does not breed

Gender Ratios:
AlwaysMale
FemaleOneEighth

For EXP rates, instead of "Medium Fast" or "Medium Slow" just put "Medium" (I don't know why it was merged). Starters are "Parabolic". In the level-up moves, replace --- moves on evolutions with the level they got it at on their previous evolution (so Sweet Scent is level 13 on Venap, Traplent and Dionare, not --- on Dionare, etc. etc.)

Just post the whole text up here. Yes, use the height and weight from other games.

Yes, use the height and weight from other games.

Something to note: I believe we need the height and weight in meters and kilograms, not feet and pounds, so it might need to be converted.

Bulbapedia, Psypokes and Serebii offer both, I believe.

I fixed a bunch of things but it was mostly correct.

I thought I would mention that for Gender Ratio, it should be "Female50Percent" as opposed to "FemaleOneHalf". Nice work otherwise!

If you'd like to do another locknessjohnson, the Equill line would be a good one. Thanks for your work thus far!

Thanks for your help!

Couple of things I fixed:
On Tellure you still had FemaleOneHalf
You need to capitalize the abilities
Put them into code tags (like quote tags but replacing QUOTE with CODE)
Evolutions should be something like
TELLURE, level, 28.
Final stages just leave the evolution part blank.
Also, you missed the egg moves.

You can do the Mogel line next.

Anyways if you want you can give me more than one at a time if its ok then i can finish multiple lines in one go :)

Hmm....It seems your code tags were input incorrectly. Just go into the Advanced Reply and use the # button to automatically create correct code tags. Other than misspelling "Mogel" in the first two lines of code, as far as I can see, everything is ship shape.

Also, are Evolutions supposed to have "steps to hatch egg" numbers?

Urk I hadn't realized that you were making up steps to hatch and stuff (the numbers struck me as odd, but I was a little tired at the time and was going to check later). This should be what you need. Also, Medium Slow and Medium Fast are actually just Medium, for future reference. I'm going back to fix the things that are wrong.

EDIT: Yeah there were a lot of things that were wrong. I don't expect you to know habitat (you'd have to look at the Encounter Rates topic and know the general theme of every route to know that), but a lot of the information is provided in the quotes above. "Rareness" means "Catch Rate," by the way.

Also Evolutions do keep steps to hatch, it's just one of those quirks of coding.

:( i'm sorry guys, i messed up and thought that you might catch my mistakes because i had no idea. thanks for the links. do you still want me to help out on this even though i just kinda made you do some extra work? i understand if you don't, but if you do then i can actually put in all the right information this time. and also the murkrow line's steps to hatch was taken off of bulbapedia so that should be right.

Cyndadile

That's fine! Everyone makes mistakes, yours was a fairly small one. And, I don't think that we changed any official pokemon hatch rates, so that should be fine.

ImmunityBow
12-06-11, 10:38 PM
Unfortunately Bulbapedia is using Black and White mechanics which are not programmed into Poccil's Essentials. So, steps to hatch happen in cycles there, which they shouldn't. You'll have to approximate canonmon as close as possible to these numbers:
1280 - nothing (possibly Goldrake, but I don''t think it''s supposed to fail as hard as Magikarp)
2560 -
3840 - Firant, Fincherp, Mogel
5120 - Venap, Celsinge, Echoise, Moocalf, Vixun, Barkub, Harskrow, Cackinge, Zantilidae, Pythang, Slowpriest, Caribrisk
6400 - Skalloy, Abyssus, Brontogon
7680 - Flintusk, Allufang
8960 - Chloreon
10240 - Sirene, Atlaxa, Snarliger
20480 - Gypseer, Tagati, Neichia
30720 - Kuranpu, Typhidna, Unicrown, Kipporok

The Murkrow thing I changed. As I explained, Bulbapedia says 5355 since it uses Black and White mechanics, while we are not.

Actually Drowzee isn't in the demo, but it's okay since it would have had to be done sooner or later anyway. In any case the only thing you got wrong was the steps to hatch.

I just compiled the txt file to find what we still need.

What we still need badly is:
Pineco Line
Embear Line

Then Barkub Line, which needs to have its revamp completed first.
And I might need Venap and Traplent redone since I can't seem to find their entries.

Also, I'm going to need a very thorough editor to send the file to who will look through each value individually and check if they are all correct. Anyone up for the job?

Black Temple Gaurdian
12-07-11, 06:41 PM
I could do that. Doesn't sound to different to modding Red Alert 2 (which, by the way, gives you an internal error and crashes if you have one typo in that 120 lines of code you just wrote :/).

NyteFyre
12-07-11, 07:46 PM
Pikang posted earlier that he had finished the Pineco Line, or at least Pineco itself.

Cyndadile was supposed to be doing the Embear Line.

Lastly, IB, the Traplent line, other than Dionare, was never done, as far as I know. All I know is that you had already done Dionare as an example when you posted the Code Template.

ImmunityBow
12-08-11, 01:53 AM
Alright then, once all the demo Pokemon are compiled I'll send it to you.

EDIT: Actually Konrad or neon did the Dionare, in any case the starters are done but I'm having Triumph redo them because I think they're outdated (thanks to Zenith the starters had changes to their movesets and such)

Also I know Cyndadile's supposed to do the Embear line but at this point there really isn't that much left to do for the demo, so people can just finish those Pokemon and then the assignments will start again for the full game's Pokemon.

Everything looks ship-shape, other than the fact that POKEMON is missing after TYPE. Though, I'm not sure if you're supposed to put it there, as some of the other have put POKEMON there, and others haven't, so it's up to IB in the end.

ImmunityBow
12-09-11, 02:10 AM
I don't think their should be a Pokemon afterward.

Blade Flight
12-09-11, 02:47 AM
IIRC, there is none, mainly because just adding the species title makes Essentials add "Pokemon" automatically. Like, if I made a custom Dex entry in Essentials for Drifloon, and I called it the "Balloon Pokemon" in pokemon.txt, it'd show up in-game as "Balloon Pokemon Pokemon". Which is weird. O.o

Triumph
12-09-11, 02:51 AM
I'll continue to work on the sets IB assigned me. Just wondering, should I prioritize spriting (I'm working on the hero at the moment) over dex entries, or vice-versa?

ImmunityBow
12-09-11, 05:25 PM
Entries first. There aren't many of them left for the demo, so I'd really like to get that file edited and handed off.

Triumph
12-09-11, 05:28 PM
Sure, I'll work on the sets you've assigned me. How many would be left after that?
Also, would the 'fly' sprites be necessary for the demo (trainer pulls out the pokeball, it's about 5 or 6 sprites in the animation)?

Reliability
12-09-11, 06:00 PM
Definitely not.

Triumph
12-09-11, 06:28 PM
Ok, good to know. I'll do those eventually, but I'll prioritize the dex entries, then the walk/run/ledge hop sprites.

ImmunityBow
12-09-11, 06:43 PM
After that there's the Venap Line, the Barkub line and the Embear line, and then we can continue on with the rest while shifting focus to other requests Konrad makes.

NyteFyre
12-09-11, 09:38 PM
Well, like I said, some of the other people's entries have Pokemon after the species name, so that should probably be edited.

-Referring to IB and Blade-

Triumph
12-09-11, 09:55 PM
I might've done that by accident with a line I sent to IB

ImmunityBow
12-09-11, 11:33 PM
Okay, I fixed them on the file.

Triumph
12-10-11, 12:00 AM
Also, if the syntax for the move section of each dex entry is in fact LEVEL,MOVE then I messed that up as well. :/

NyteFyre
12-10-11, 12:11 AM
I believe our comrade Konrad already explained that:

The first concerns pokemon.txt. The level up moves need to have the level number FIRST and then the move name.

Triumph
12-10-11, 12:50 AM
Yep, ok, then I messed that up too. I'll fix it and keep it in mind for the other sets I'm supposed to do.

I assume that what we can do has been done for this - what else is needed that one can contribute to for the demo?

Triumph
12-15-11, 12:03 AM
I actually have 2 lines IB assigned me I need to get to. If you're any good at spriting, I think we need certain in-game assets. Though IB or Reliability can probably answer you better than I can.

Nothing artistic from me I'm afraid. Far more adept at the data, technical side of things.

ImmunityBow
12-15-11, 03:13 AM
Triumph, I believe only the Echoise line is left for you. dick1 went ahead and did the Venap line.

As for the demo, I can't really think of anything non-graphics related that is still needed aside from editing and such.

If you're looking for something to do, and enjoy working on Pokemon.txt, the Inflare Line seems like a logical line to do next.

Triumph

NyteFyre, is it possible for you to do a writeup of Torkoal, Skalloy/Skarmory and Tropius? If you want help I will.

Those are possibly in the demo, I missed them. Volunteers to do their pokemon.txt entries would be nice too.

NyteFyre

Skalloy I have already done, see file:'Skalloy line through Cascadet' (I didn't know that Skarmory hadn't had a revamp, though). The others I will get on once their revamps are finalized. Unless you'd rather I do the incomplete write-ups now, and you'll edit/finalize them later?

Which is funny because Line 258 looks exactly the same and seems okay.

Can you copypasta some more lines to give context? Maybe 10 lines before and after?
Also, some compilers act funny and will only show the first error they come across. Unless it specified that line 258 works, it might not really work.

Black Temple Gaurdian

Ok, the problem was that some of the lines randomly had quotes around them. Removed. Also, Celsinge and Echoise Line compatibility needed a second value, so I repeated the first value. Burnout and Marionette are special moves with a base power of 0. They either need to be changed to status, or they need a base power.
That's as far as I've got so far.

Black Temple Gaurdian
08-22-12, 07:21 PM
NO! Do not remove the quotes. Any pokedex entry wih a full stop (or was it a comma?) MUST be wrapped in quotes to tell the game it's not the next entry.

Edit: As for themoves, what are you talking about? How they're set up ingame or how they're desvribed on the forum?

Cyndadile
08-22-12, 08:38 PM
Oh, ye of little faith. I saw that on the wiki page ("If there are any commas or apostrophes/double quote marks in the description, the entire description must be enclosed in double quote marks. The double quote marks in the description must also be preceded by a backslash "\"."), but the entries for pokemon already in pokemon.txt didn't have them. I'll add quotes around the entries if they're necessary, but that's not where the quotes were.
For example:

[387]
Name=VENAP
InternalName=VENAP
Kind=Flytrap
Pokedex= VENAP produces a sweet aroma from glands in the back of its mouth. It uses this to attract prey into its gaping maw.
Type1=GRASS

Rareness=45
BaseEXP=65
Happiness=70
GrowthRate=Parabolic
StepsToHatch=5120
Color=Green
Habitat=Forest
"EffortPoints=0,0,0,0,1,0"
Abilities=OVERGROW
"Compatibility=1,7"
Height=0.5
Weight=10.5
GenderRate=FemaleOneEighth
"Moves=1,POUND,1,LEER,7,VINEWHIP,10,ASTONISH,10,MUD SLAP,13,SWEETSCENT,16,RAZORLEAF,20,WRAP,24,FAKETEA RS,29,GRASSWHISTLE,34,GIGADRAIN,39,GROWTH,39,INGRA IN,44,FLORALSTORM,49,MAGICALLEAF"
"EggMoves=BULLETSEED,GROWTH,MEANLOOK,COTTONSPORE,SC ARYFACE,MOONLIGHT"
"Evolutions=TRAPLENT,level,16"
BattlerPlayerY=0
BattlerEnemyY=0
BattlerAltitude=0
Quotes around the basestats, effortpoints, compatibility, moves, eggmoves, and evolutions lines were causing compiler buggery, not quotes around dex entries.

For the moves, I was talking about the moves.txt. Afterburn and Marionette's lines say that they have 0 base power, but Pokemon Essentials says that only "Status" moves can have 0 base power.
Edit: Same issue with Rocketpunch and Tidalwave.
Edit2: And Orion's Sword.

Black Temple Gaurdian
08-22-12, 09:29 PM
It should work, but if the programme itself insists, set the BP to 1.

EDIT: Eurgh, how'd I even miss those quotes the first time, second time and third time round O.o Damn walls of text.

ImmunityBow
08-23-12, 02:20 AM
I didn't know that. There must have been quotes before that I just kept in not realizing they had a specific purpose. Thanks!

Cyndadile
08-23-12, 02:03 PM
Alright, since it looks like we'll have to do more of these eventually, here are the errors I've come across so far:
-Colors should only have first letter capitalized (IB mentioned this before)
-Various minor spelling errors
-Types should be capitalized

Also, Canileaf is said to evolve for "WOLVINE,Level,30,Defeat,TUNDROLF"
Why is the level 30 there? And did we figure out the whole defeating thing? For now, I'm putting "Evolution=WOLVINE,Custom1,TUNDROLF", since Essentials provides Custom1-7.

And Spidream's height is listed as "0.03", which is too close to 0, apparently. Is it ok to round up to .1, or was it supposed to be .3? What should we do?

ImmunityBow
08-23-12, 03:17 PM
Canileaf needs level 30 as another prerequisite to his evolution. But yes, that can all just be a custom evolution. Are there any other defeat triggers in Pokemon? We could learn from that to try to implement this one.

Make Spidream .3 I think. Pokemon are pretty big, even the small ones.

Cyndadile
08-23-12, 03:33 PM
Upon realizing that no pokemon should be less than 2 inches tall, I put .3 for Spidream's height.
Changed "Evolution=WOLVINE,Custom1,TUNDROLF" to "Evolution=WOLVINE,Custom1,469" (469 is Tundrolf's number) because it wanted an integer, we can probably change that when we code that evolution method. Also, Miltank is Custom2 (Tauros) and Custom3 (miltank) now.

Now I'm getting this, and I'm confused.

So far, I've done up to pokemon 416 (Moocalf)
Still need to go through and add returning pokemon's new files.
There were, like, a bajillion 4th gen evos I had to weed out of the evolutions list.

Edit: To respond to IB's post, the way we had it, you'd have to get to level 30 OR defeat tundrolf. We'll have to make our custom evolution take level 30 into account. And I don't think there are any defeat pokemon right now, since there would be something in Essentials if there was.

Did some research and saw that pokemon.txt errors are rarely accurate. Then I realized that items.txt was never updated. If anyone would be so kind as to start creating items.txt (http://pokemonessentials.wikia.com/wiki/Defining_an_item) for all of our items (http://www.pokemontopaz.net/forums/showthread.php?366-Topaz-Items-TMs), that would be incredibly incredible.

Turns out all the random quotation marks actually come from previous versions of pokestarter that weren't as consistent or clean. In any case make sure to use this full list of tms to replace the tms section in Pokestarter since that one's all messed up with B/W moves and numbers and no flash. I've updated items.txt but you never know. In case of a conflict of move descriptions here and in the moves list, choose this one. It's closer to how canon does it. Same with item descriptions.

DARKAURA changed to SCORN on the Murkrow line, please make sure this is reflected in pokemon.txt for the demo when you get to that point.

Just to keep you guys up to date, the game now compiles with all the pokemon up to Moocalf. We still need to implement the new versions of returning pokemon, and switch the current sprites for returning pokemon to the version we decided on (platinum frame 1), and implement evolution methods. However, progress is progress, and I hope some of you are excited at how well things are progressing. I know I'm pretty excited about it.
