Emerald Question

In Emerald, when you gain access to the Johto starters, can you try to get a shiny one by saving before you pick one and soft-resetting if it's not shiny? I'm not sure if that works on these Pokemon...

Also, if it happens to be shiny, will it show up in the preview for the Pokemon, or do you have to check the status instead?

If the nature changes with soft-resetting then yeah you can get a shiny. If the nature stays the same then no.

I think you have to see its status if you wanna know if its shiny. Partly because When I got my shiny turtwig in pokemon Platinum, I didn't know it was shiny until I used it in battle.

Yeah, it won't show in the 'preview' of the Pokemon.
