Voting for the purple one. imo the purple gives it a very regal feel, while the others don' (plus the purple gems look best). ;D

i voted for #3 cause it looks very good and has the perfect contrast...
and technically it has the most regal feel to it if you realize the color most royalty has worn over the years...
but #s 2 and 4 also look pretty dang good too...(it was kinda hard for me to determine which was the best cause they all look really good)

Purple has been a royalty colour in Europe even more so than red, actually. The royal purple was extraordinarily expensive all over Europe since the only way molluscs that provided the colour for the dye were only found in Lebanon, I believe (a part of Carthage at the time). Red is, of course, a colour often associated with Chinese royalty but the real royal colour was gold/yellow. In fact, you could only wear yellow if you were royalty.

So red wouldn't be the most regal, actually. And sometimes contrast isn't always the thing to go for. Just offering a different perspective.

That is good to know. I knew that purple was a color for royalty, and that it used to be very hard to get, but I didn't know that much background.

I was wondering, how long until we determine a winner? It seems to me this one has a good majority.

I heard the crushed mullosks were used for the red...
whatever both were used quite a lot...
and if you take a good look at England you'll see what I meant about the color red...

Red can be made with many other plant variants such as madder and other such things. The most difficult ones were purple and blue (not even royalty were allowed to wear blue: it was reserved for the sky and Virgin Mary since the only way to make it was Lapis Lazuli. I don't think woad was known at the time nor that algae that's now used to make British blue Smarties)

I like the "royal" appearance of the purple one, so I'm voting #1.

I'd say we have a clear cut winner here as only two people have commented on Quinn's Leoracle.

actually i meant the red worn by the royalty was from the crushed mollusks cause the dye could never be washed out like our clothes do today...
but really i like all of them just picked the red one cause it looked like a good one to pick...
so yeah i guess the purple is the winner...

Now since No. 1 has one, will this thread close so the next batch of shinies can go?
