Sorry for posting in an older thread, but I looked at this and remembered something.
SANTA CLAUSE
(dont laugh too hard, this is the first time I've ever done something like this)

As obvious as this should be, I used a hiker as the idea. Now even if he isn't a gift giver, or a move tutor (better idea) I am kinda hoping he could be just an easter egg or something.
Is there anything I can change on him to make him look "good"?

Not bad, actually, for a start! The gray beard makes him look a little bit "bad" if you know what I mean, I'd lighten it up. I'd also add fur lining to more parts of the sprite (the hat's rim, the sleeves) and edit some parts that are pretty clearly taken from the hiker.

now again, since this is my first...let me get this straight...lighten the beard a bit and add a more fuzzy look? Also, can u give me any tips on gettin rid of more hiker look?
(Yet again sorry for postin in an old thread, I just really like the idea....:D)
To get off about him for a second...u think we could have him like a freaky move tutor, or just have him be an easter egg? (If, hopefully, he makes it?)

For removing hiker-ness, first of all you need to recolour the shades of red so they match, and edit the pants so they look less like dyed-red-canvas pants and more velvet-Santa-style. The boots also look a bit out of place so I'd recommend editing them too.

Hiker Nicholas would like to battle? Yeahsure, Wynaut. Maybe make the eyes just a bit bigger, though? They're like....squinty now. Just looks weird.

I havent done eyes yet. I'm just pretty busy for a night or 2 (with the desk ready to be finally reasembled) but I'll try to squeeze him in.

Looks very good, but I would make the sleeves red, and add some of the fluff around his waist to the bottom of the hat.

I say "I would", but in reality, its not like I coud do any good at spriting...

I was thinking of like the red sleeves with some white cotton around the wrists...
also I suggest removing the straps over his chest holding his shirt there since it's most times shown as a single piece shirt/coat. maybe add some white cotton down the center of the chest to the cotton looking belt.
currently it looks good even as is...

k...I started on these...yet again this is the first time I have ever done an "overworld" sprite....and yet again...I based it off the hikers.
It isn't compete (as you can see), but I want ya'll to see it.

Now as you can see, I was thinkin he could just look around rather than run. If you think he should run...I've still got the originals and it is possible.
I also though that we could throw a possible stanlter (HG SS) overworld by his side, or I could try to make a carabrisk. Another I was thinking, is he could chase around his "deer", like picko and Mr. Brinney in ruby/sapphire.

i always thought that Santa wore glasses...idk why, but the sprite seems a bit off in the face region, and i think some small wire-frame reading glasses would help...but that's just me...

Alright, I got him done...without the running ones. I still dont know if anyone wants this. That being said, I found the HG SS stantler.

they all look pretty good to me...
and Nytefyre: he doesn't always need glasses that's just the traditional way to draw him...
my mom drew a version of santa one time (like early 90s i think) and he wears red green and white...
the colors we use for santa today are from Coca-Cola... (see there logo--tis red/white...)
but really he looks good regardless of the glasses...

well, maybe replace those Hiker walking left sprites with santa ones would help...Also, the arm looks kind of like a noodle on the walking right one...maybe make it a bit more angled, and straightened, and move the bag up a pixel or 2 to compensate? Also, i don't see any fluff on santas right arm...

I'm not the happiest with the hand either, but if I add another pixel to it, it actually cuts it into 2. I could see with the bag though. What do u mean wit the arm. The other hikers I'll do tonight.

well, his arm look like a noodle bent back, but not so that it breaks...it's too rounded, and looks kinda funky. make it more of a straight line, and that should help...

The fact that it's smaller than its pre-evo Stantler is a little strange, and it needs visible outlines so it can be seen. The colours are good though.

i'm not sure why it's smaller than stantler, i guess that can be looked over, seeing as it's only an overworld. i am unable to make it bigger on my own...

looks fine to me, though the antlers could be a couple hairs bigger, and it needs eyes. I dont know why, but it is sometimes hard to view something without its eyes, they give it life.

and my animation. This took FOREVER TO MAKE!!!! OHHH MY GOD TYPE OF THING! Remember though, that this JUST AN animated gif....this isn't exactly how it will transition. Ya'll dont use animated gif for this, right? I dont think so.

why is there a freaky wood background u ask? If I made it transparent, the cotton would blend with the forum, so I used it for contrast. Also, for most houses in the game, (to what I've seen) they have wood floors.

techincally, there are eyes, but seeing as Caribrisk has very light eyes, it makes them hard to see on the sprite...

Breakin some rules with colors isn't always bad. I really think they could go darker...I can't even see eyes.

to me, that looks ALOT better though I think a pupil might look good. Idk though. Also, it kinda looks like his feet are floating....though that maybe just since the forum background is white too.

for me, the forum background is a sky blue, so i can see it better. Also, the Stantler sprite i molded into the Caribrisk sprite didn't have pupils, if you look closely.

When I opened your sprite sheet. I noticed some slight issues...that being said here is the animation with his originals. Except I think I added some lines...and this one might be a bit faster than the one below since I made it move 8 pixels each time rather than six.

also as you can tell with the backgrounds...I was messing with them to see a possible color scheme for his house. At first I liked the 1st, though I later thought it could be more "colorised"...and thats why there is a background change in the 2 (I ramble lolz)

my two faves r Wolfrost and Polarice cause i think they would be good to fight against and for the Santa trainer good to fight with...
considering where he lives he should be using Wolfrost and Polarice most times and probably have more Polarice but legends tend to keep things from being messed with too much...

sorry for double postin, the edit time is done.
I just remembered something, his house.
(as some background), when I downloaded poccil's essentials, I looked through all the folders. The folder that I'll be talking about is the buildings one. When I saw it, all it was was just a billion houses and towers (towers cut into 2 or so). So if they are just images, we can edit them. I was wondering, how we could differ his house from the others. Possilbly candy canes? maybe a green mat? idk. That being said, I deleted it all when it wouldn't run (for having a too small monitor) Sow could someone (I would think either zero or I B would have this) could email, pm, or just post the general outer and inside house. The inside, I wanna make red and green and stuff (see carabrisk animations).

I'm gonna possibly throw a load of Caribou and Reindeer though :D Possibly some flashing lights at night. I'm gonna have my fun. that house is comming along pretty decent. I ripped the all 3 different house thingys. I took the normal house, and resized it (still trying to fix the distort), the big house factory one, and the chimney from the other. I'm wanting to make it big :D Also, I dont think this could happen, though I was imagining (B.S thinking) that it could be semi different. During the day, the lights are off and a sleigh on the roof, during the late dusk and early night, the lights are flashing the sleigh on top and a carabrisk by it, and during most of the night, a sleigh, the carabrisks running around are gone, and "hiker clause" is gone.
This was just me imagining though That would be fun though. I do think though that if I do put a sleigh and junk on the roof, during the night, it, all the carabrisks and stanters running around and him himself should be gone.

Double posting is fine if you have something relevant to add and it's past the editing window. I really don't see why there's so much stigma behind it. Topaz doesn't have a big enough community to enforce all the rules bigger forums have (necroposting, double posting, etc.) If you don't want him to double post, then simply post something relevant of your own.

I like what you've done with the roof there. Did you sprite that carriage yourself?

As for the rest of the house, the animations are fine, it's a nice idea to have it light up at night. The columns need shading though. Not just on the white.

The santa sprite looks a little sad, don't you think? Why don't you try closing his eyes and making him laugh?

As for the overworlds, they're great. The hat needs to have its shading reflect its shape more though, as does the bag. Try having it rounded instead of cutting across diagonally.

I'm just wondering, what should the size of the inside be? I was working with the tiles, and when it was 300 by 240 or so, I couldn't get too much in there, since all the tiles were big. I was thinking something like 500 or 600 by mid 400s. Or should I go bigger?

alright. According to IB, when overworld sprites are put into RPG, they double in size. Since these are only previews, I had to double their size temporary. So, here is a revamp of the outside.

Looking good. (Actually, though, the overworlds need to be doubled in size before putting them on the map, the game doesn't do it for you).

There's one thing that's bothering me though, that's the fire. There's an orange pixel at the bottom that really looks out of place.

I see whatcha mean. I also edited a bit, not only would there be downstairs, but there is an attic like thing (his room). I did put that snowy tree in there. That isn't what my surprise thing is though. I'll just say it since it isn't that cool anyway. In places like mossdeep and sootpolis, there are peoples houses that have trees that block doors and stuff, and that is what the tree would do. Block a couple areas in the basement.

I'm making a downstairs right now, but I was wondering, would anyone by chance have the tile of a chair's back view? I've got the front and both sides, but I can't find a back. (Maybe I might just create one.) The downstairs isn't too cool though, but its gonna be populated with about 6-10 younger boys and girls.

First of all, the trainer sprite. The white parts have a different shading which doesn't blend in at all with the rest of it, and it should have some darker outline. The eyes should be 2px darker colour and 2px white like normal trainer sprites.

I think we're still in GBA style (forget if it's RSE or FRLG) for overworlds? Meh, prove me wrong. Beard needs outline on the front sprites, the sack should be more rounded (or blockier if achievable since it's filled with boxes of presents) Eyes actually look fine in the ow.

I like it, but generally stay away from such dark outlines on the roof. Use the lighter colour you used to outline the building.
For both the night and the day ones, the columns need work. Don't zoom in before applying the white, since it looks bad. Do the white swirls before magnifying the image to show us.

Looks decent but the DP overworld doesn't fit in with the RSE tiles. Same zooming in problem with the patterns on the mat.

I'll work with most of it. To answer some questions and state some stuff.
1. The DP overworld might not look right now, but IB says it works (awhile back ago, I think?)
2. You haven't seen those freaky trees that have that white shit sprayed on them? Its actually kinda cool. Thats what those are.
3. For one, the TV wont be flashing as fast, it will be like the ones in RSE. Also, 2nd, if slowed down, I dont think it would give kids epilepsy. Why do I say that though (sounds like a bold statement), but I'm actually slightly epileptic myself. I can't watch those super flashy thingys at parties.
4. It could be. It could also be Hot chocolate, but choose whatever suits you. (me, it would be a mocha machine ;) ....mmmmmm....
5. I dont know if its just me, just you or what, but I actually can't see the issues with the overworlds of Carabrisk and "SC". Idk though. ;P
I'll get to most of the other stuff in a bit, I've got some "editing" to do with something else first.
6. I was actually going for that kinda "odd" look on the entrance mat.

you might remember places in Sootpolic (Idk how to spell it) and Mossdeep city, there were homes that actually had the same thing. For one, the dorr is blocked by trees and the other by 1 tree (if I remember right). Same thing here. The rooms it blocks are one room that goes into both the children room and the kickback room. It was actually gonna be the factory, with big machines and junk like that, but that was gonna be hell, so I didn't make it. I wanted people to still question it, so I put the trees in those areas.

I've read that cave of dragonflies spriting guide (shading part) over and over and over again, I and I just cant get how to shade the hat more. I can see what you mean, and I have messed around with it, but I still have no idea how to change it up better....(sad that I dont know the shading)

santa and dive I dont think would go too well. it seems nice to inncorperate him with the adventure (I wish I could get that somehow), but I dont think dive would be the best. Thats just me though. Who knows, dive might be the best thing yet.?

Well, compared to what? Since he's in a town you can't reach until late in the game, it'd have to be something like Dive or Waterfall if it's an HM.

Doesn't seem right just giving out a shiny like that. This isn't through a promotion like Spiky Ear was for HGSS, and the main reason Red Gyarados existed in GSC was to establish the existence of shinies.

yah, HM's are a good idea. I'm just not so sure about which one or even if though...though thats just me. I'm kinda leaning toward the move tutor. It wouldn't be shiny though, it would be an "alternate" it would be the only way you could get that color sceme. like how shellos, you have one in the west, and one in the east, for this, there would be the normal, the shiny, and this other one and he's the only way to get it. Yet again, I'm for him teaching fly to stantler or carabrisk though. (and maybe have some other "snowy, christmasy moves to teach other stuff."

maybe some things like coldwind, icywind, stuff that isn't TM

maybe a couple light and normal stuff. Something that would have to deal with "happyness" and "light"

and for the rockets. they would have to pay like in XD, depending on move. Fly would be the most, since its impossible otherwise.

That being said, I dont really wanna use my Miror B as a move tutor, I want him a wandering trainer like the TV people in RSE.
What could we do for the rockets?

Why not just have him give out a Blizzard TM? We need that for somewhere, and Move Tutors are a lot more difficult to code than a simple TM gift from what I've heard from friends. It would also create a bias toward Ice moves since we are currently only planning for about 15 moves to be taught.

Ha, Fly on the Stantler line. That's pretty good. But he would only offer that if you already had the Fly HM.

Yeah, the other moves need to be ones that aren't already TMs. And we need to give people a way to get multiple copies of Ice Beam & Blizzard. One of the reasons I actually liked Voltorb Flip in HGSS was 'cause it relied mostly on logic instead of pure luck.

If we have the game corner, we could have the blizzard there, and icebeam in the department store. (same with fireblast/flamethrower and thunder/thunderbolt)
I still liked slots better, but I'm really good at the vortorb flip. And yah, you have to think. Though with the slots it isn't pure luck, you have to time it right (its tough, but you stare at a part of your screen and when 7 is right above, you hit. I get it almost every time).

well one thing's for sure: it's gonna be interesting to watch a pokemon who normally doesn't fly get taught the HM Fly...
so i say go with it...

but i do think it would be good if you could get a renewable TM or something from the guy...
(if you think about it a once only tm is a pain to deal with as you've gotta give it to the correct pokemon and then breed through about 20 levels of pokemon before finally getting it on to the one you want...)

I can see fly seems like a stong idea, like tutor wise, but what about other stuff? I've heard renewable TM, The Dive HM , a "christmas based" move tutor, a tutor that likes orions, but makes rockets pay. So what? I'm for the move tutor (possibly the orion friendly one, but not sure), or the Dive HM and he just teaches fly after.
