    Default Reli's Back Sprite Factory

    Yay for cliché topic names!

I'm really unmotivated right now, so actually getting down to work is the biggest problem. Once I get that down, the actual production usually turns out. Note the usually, because this happened:

I've ditched these and will come back to them later. Not sure when.

I posted this last, but the only change that I remember I was supposed to make was to curve the shading on the green ball.

    Anyone think of/remember anything else?

The green ball should have shading on the lower part too, and you can try doing some dithering shiny highlight on the bottom right similar to Voltorb's front sprite.

Nimbolt looks great, but Destado looks a little too 2D

well, Nimbolt looks a bit...umm how to say it....umm...not concrete enough, i guess...he just looks a a bit fuzzy, and cartoonish...also, the lines are a little too thin, just a little thicker would look fine...sorry, just my 2 cents...

Wait a second...I made Jackalant! Why are you telling people that YOU made it?

I mean, I made one a long time ago, but that one looks exactly the same as mine, with some much better shading, admittedly, but still!

He probably thought that everyone already knew that. When he first posted it up before the wipe, he gave you full credit, saying it was just an edit to some of the outlines, proportions and shading.

Reliability, just for reference you should edit that in.

Original Jackalant made by PikangX, but the forum crash stole my effort to make that clear. I even found and posted the original image for everyone to see. It was quite spectacular.

Destado looks like a regular tornado. I understand his problem. Characters designed like that are hard to do, but im shure you'll find a way.

Is that a good level of cut off? I tried to get it high enough so the highlight I did is seen. Is that what you meant IB?

I need suggestions of which Pokemon I should work on next. I have DracoNyon's old Seraph sprite or should I start something new?
I don't want to do the clouds though because I need to start over with them, which hurts me deeply.

If I recall correctly DracoNyon was a pretty decent spriter so why don't you start off with the old Seraph?

The Jackalant looks great (props to PikangX too) except that one issue I keep on addressing isn't fixed: on the green ball on top, the shading needs to curve down more and actually partly fill out the bottom, or else it looks like it's squished onto some kind of glass floating in mid air.

I think the lupine line was done already by Novoni, not sure about huskii though.

I think that fixed it. Right?

Here are two versions of Seraph. The right is pretty close to DracoNyon's original with some small shading edits. The left is my complete revamp that didn't go quite as well as I had hoped. If people can tell me what they life about each, I can try to put them together. Also, if you think one is much better than the other, I'll focus on that one.

I like the left one. I think I prefer Draco Nyon's ring though, yours looks a bit stretched out.

As for Jackalant, though that's not what I pictured for the green ball, yours works fine too.

The Seraph on the right has my vote. Actually, I think it would be better if you brought the wings higher a bit.

Also I noticed that yours has better shading for the most part. The only thing I like better about draconyons is the dithering on the head.

I tried to take everything that was said and do what seemed to work.

'Sup Phantern? You look particularly odd today.

Both are looking great. Phantern seems quite good, technique wise. However, it seems a little squished horizontally. Perhaps you could move it down and take a closer crop to allow yourself more room for the main body?

Largen the ring on Seraphs head and it would be perfect. As for Phantern, hes perfect already.

I like seraph how it is. The ring seems fine and is better than the big ring on the other one.

Hey. The Jackalant backsprite is being officialized, but the link is now broken. Can you reupload it?

That's actually really good. Two things jump out at me right now. The first is the snout, whihc IMO should be pointed forward a little more, so it should be at an angle where not so much of it has seen. It means you'll have to re spreite that bit, but I'm sure you'll find some way to pull it off. The second thing is your dithering. It's... off. It should look checkerboard-y but yours has some spaces and stuff in it. That will help with the pixellyness of it.

I'm really just making up words left and right here. Though it is really good. Keep at it!

As I said before, it's too small (like Novoni's original) and possibly doesn't reflect Wolvine's pose well enough. Focusing on making it bigger could be your first step.

Yes, that would be about the right size, though as you can see, using the resize function makes the outlines all blurry and since it's mathematical it doesn't follow the curve as well as resizing it by hand. Either you'll have to pixel-over the sprite to improve the quality or do lots of clean-up editing.

    /sweatdrop

i'm only good at recolors, and slight adjustments...maybe Reli could help in that area?

also, the outline is blurry from where i did a transparent...

I added some extra shading where I thought it was due and tried to... flatten him a bit. He looks rounder now IMO.

NyteFyte's Wolvine, large-nd and re-shaded (not very effectively). I don't want to take any more ownership of this sprite. So, Nyte Fyte, if you could, I would add fists. That will give it a better look in comparison to the front sprite.

hey, whatever works for it! i don't care about ownership, i'm just trying to help, and i'm a little good at spriting, so....anyway, do whatever you think would look better, your the expert spriter here(besides Novi) after all....

Phantern is better. I really like the curves you've got on it, they're generally well done and smooth, and it's definitely better rounder.

I think I'll deal with Wolvine from here. Now that the size is right it shouldn't be too hard to simply make edits and improve it.
