    Default Item Sprites

    Hey Guys

I tried my hand at the Blessed Anhk item that evolves Slowbro, don't know if it turned out very well, someone may have to touch it up a bit, but anyway, I used the RSE key sprite as a base, also I am not a master of spriting quite yet, so don't expect masterpieces.
    Feedback appreciated! Thanks

What are the bars on the sides? As for the ankh, it looks good except the circular part isn't smooth and the shading is too dark on the right side.

i believe that the bars are all the different colors/shades he used in the making of the ankh. It's a common trick used by most spriters, though they usually cut it out, and make a second save file for sharing after they finish their current version of it. the save file with the bars is for when they need or wish to make adjustments, that way it's easier to figure out which colors they need to change.

That is useful, yes. I've never sprited or done pixel art so I didn't know what it was.

Yeah, I left it there just in case someone wanted to try to make it a bit better, I'm not the best at scratching parts to it, so that explains the rough edges, ill have another go at it, thanks guys.

Yeah, most spriters use palettes because they all come from recolouring backgrounds. I find that those who start off doing sprites that aren't splices/recolours tend not to use palettes as much.

That looks like a good base. The overall shape is there, it just needs quality edits so that it looks less like it's floating. I also think that a golden colour scheme would be better than the current metallic one, so that it looks like a Light-type item, not a Steel-type.

I made a gold one, it didn't turn out very well, I tried to make it gold trimmed and ended up coloring the whole thing yellow..
I like that version, although if you look up Ankh, you'll see they are more rounded on the edges and go out a bit more, you'll see what I mean.
Ill have a look at the other items and maybe give them a go.

I liked how the sides of the cross were pronounced in Bazero's sprite. That is how an ankh is supposed to look, but your circle is much smoother yea.

Heres the Spungy Herb >>> Spungy Herb.png

I think it turned out rather well, had a hard time choosing colors though, did you want your items to be from scratch? Not just recolors of other sprites?
    What do you think?
Anybody want to try and make the IB's Ankh curvy sided, I really don't think i can do it.

I can fix it. It should only take 5 minutes or so.

While recolours are acceptable, especially in terms of things that Gamefreak tends to recolour (say, X Sp. Defense), any good scratches are immediately preferable. As for herbs I'd prefer them to be scratches, but if you could post up other herbs in the Pokemon games for comparison the decision would be easier.

The Herbs from RSE looked like this White Herb.png Revival Herb.png Spungy Herb.png And theres mine.

I think you could use the Choice scarf as a base for a Topaz herb, just scratch the rest, Choice Scarf.png looks like a herb to me.

Do you guys have something set in your mind to what your Herb could look like, gives me an idea where to start.

Since herbs are one of those things that don't seem to be simple recolours most of the time I'd prefer them as heavy edits or scratched. As for how they look just interesting leaf patterns is okay.

As you see from my original Blessed Ankh sprite, I suck at scratching, so do you have any items that don't need to be scratched?
Also which items are needed for the demo?

Dairy Incense: Boost effects of healing moves/items by 20%. Allows Miltank to give birth to Moocalf.
-> Can be just an edit of a current incense since that's what Gamefreak does.

Burning Coal: If the holder of this item gets hit by a physical move, the opponent will become Burned. One-time use.

Dune Ball: Works better on pokemon found in sand (1x usual catch rate, 3x in Sand)

I think BTG made one, but I can't remember for sure.

Anyway, I tried my hand at the Burning Coal, but I think it looks more like a lava rock than a lump of coal...

I really like the burning coal sprite IB! It's perfect.

Ankh is better but I still feel the sides of the cross are too small. They should be pretty much proportionate to the bottom.

Bazero that was a good attempt, I hope you keep doing them.

It seems like there isn't any shading? I like the idea of having cow spots but I do think they could be implemented a bit better. For one they're all in a line whereas they would probably look better scattered a bit more naturally. My other idea was just to put a pink oval in the middle, but that's coming from my Ragnarok Online days.

I find it "udder"-ly silly to not realize what a pink spot on a cow-related item means. XD

You can shade white by using a shade of light grey tinted with whatever hue you need to use.

I must admit that spriting items is much more instantaneously gratifying than scratching Pokemon:

    Blessed Ankh with bigger arms:

    Plain Stone:

    Magma Stone:

I like the stones and the scarf IB, especially the scarf. Very good job on that one! Not sure about the ankh so I'll let others comment on it.

Quinn, I really like the Flare/Iron Incense but not sure about your edit of the Dairy Incense. Doesn't it seem a little 'busy' compared to the other two?

As for the Pokeball size, here is MewLover's Dune Ball:

I assume it's the right size.

A few quality edits to the Resist Scarf that were bothering me. I don't expect many people to see that much difference but they were bothering me:

    Rivalry Orb:

This one ended up being really hard. The concept was really hard to execute and the whole thing about making it a shiny orb-thing is nearly impossible.

though the rivalry orb looks good, and how it evolves Zangoose and Seviper, I think it should be ALOT simpler. Like a Red-Blue mix (There's blue on seviper right?)

it might be kinda boring, but it would be less "busy". If there is a different sceme you can think of, go for it, but with the one right now, it would be hell to try to shade.
