The answer is likely no, since we're not trying to rip much from other games. They were made by hand (or hand-sprited, whatever) and took ages to do.

EDIT: Wait, where did you even find them? I didn't think they were still on this part of the site. O_o

Still, we need the backgrounds at a certain size. Ripping them will make them distorted, and I believe the ones we have are unfinished.

Those aren't the battle backgrounds we made/resprited... Those seem like placeholders.

    These are what I have:

And I'm sure we had indoor ones too. Reliability made a Surfing one IIRC as well.

I just looked at the battle backgrounds on the site. Here's the link. http://www.pokemontopaz.net/battlebackgrounds/
These don't suck. At least I don't think so...

The ones shown on the site are a tad simplistic, to be fair. I like the building one.

The surf one was kinda bad. I was meaning to fix it, but that project kinda died off, so I didn't bother. I dug it out of imageshack, in case it matters:

Well, we can get the ones you (IB) posted up there. They are definitely better.

I made those real quick for Badara so he could program the locations of the Pokemon on the battle screen.

The full image sizes are the size RPG maker needs. I'll update with what IB sent but I don't really know what to do about the backgrounds.

As you can see, I just went with a striped alternating sequence of two colors. Suggestions?

And tsk tsk, cheating to see the rest of the pages I made without me posting them.

How well does RPGMaker deal with non-sprited images? That might make backgrounds easier.

Badara showed me some RPGMaker games that seemed to have non-sprited backgrounds for their battle screens.

Like a full desert background, stuff like that. I don't have the links anymore unfortunately, but I think they should be okay to use.

That would not fit in a Pokemon game. Ever.

That should be possible. Though I'm not sure why you'd want something like that...

I'm a bit confused as to how that would fit in.

Personally, i would prefer somewhat anime-styled backgrounds, but non-sprite backgrounds would be great, in my opinion, much better than the simple backgrounds the canon games use.

lol no I don't think IB meant "real life" images. He just meant images that weren't scratch sprited.

The games Badara showed me had something like you'd see in a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest battle.

Scenery; with grass, trees, rocks, ponds, stuff like that. They were pretty neat. That's what ImmunityBow meant.

I don't want to give a final answer right now because I haven't even started anything in RPG Maker yet but I don't see how using backgrounds like that would be a problem.

From what I remember of using RPGMaker bringing up images isn't an issue, but number and how often are the major factors.

As for clarifying myself, I meant stuff that was something like digitally painted on Photoshop. I have a friend who's been doing landscapes digitally lately, since Pokemon stuff is small she might be able to do something, I would try myself except that it seems impossible to do without a tablet.

Zero, I believe he's referring to the background in the 4-minutes long battle which consumes most of the video.

lol, I didn't even watch any of it. I assumed it would only be a small part of the video. I'll check it out now.

Edit: Yeah that's not bad. The game looks like it was made from the Pokemon pack that Badara was using for RPG Maker. Cool stuff.
