    Default Safari Zone

I have returned, and have successfully recovered my old safari zone, for those interested. I plan to edit it significantly, so don't take this as a final version. Any comments would be appreciated!

I realize the proportions are off, but you get the idea.

    Awesome!

Got an error posting last time, don't want to repost everything so I'll just say this:

    Entrance?
    Swamp, please.
    More snow.
    Is that a cave?

EDIT: Do you have a copy of the Topaz tileset?

The lower left area could easily be turned into a swamp...

I think the entrance is right in the middle vertically and very far to the right. I'm pretty sure that's it, because that's the only place that makes sense.

Well, I worked with you on this up to the present point (at least in terms of commentary) and so far I think it's definitely right there in terms of looking playable.

Yeah, the entrance is right where Tyran said. And I don't have a specific Topaz tileset, I have been using.....oh wait. I'm not really sure anymore, it was so long ago.

I'm not entirely sure how to create a swamp........what sprites should I use?

Yes, that is a cave. We have never had a safari zone with a cave in any canon game. So, I thought it would be interesting.

There could potentially be ice in the cave, in reference to the request for more snow?

In this one, I attempted to create a marsh type area in the area requested. Obviously I have to recolor the trees in the water, but other than that, suggestions?

Ugh, I don't want to root around the forums for topaz tilesets. IB?

Ther is a pretty good swamp in there, I think.

That is a good place for the swamp. Is this safari zone the same size as others?

I don't know, I couldn't find a full safari zone image in order to check (back when I made this). I can try again though.

    Not necessary.

Just thought of something; it could use more rest houses.

I like it so far. Don't really have any suggestions. I was never much of a fan of these zone areas as the Pokemon would always flee before I could catch them.

    This means you, Chansey.

Hmm.....As it stands, all the areas are sort of haphazardly place, no natural progression going on. I could see you starting off in forest, which replaces the grassland area, move left into the swamp, which is at the base of the Mountain area (Which is now where the lake is), and on the other side is the desert (which replaces the forest area) , due to the rain shadow effect. Too much rain on the one area leads to the swamp, and leaves the desert on the other side.

Meanwhile, the Ocean could stay where it is, as it could be the run-off from the swamp. The Lake could be water that came from the Mountain that went to the right. The desert would lead to grassland, going right which would be where the mountain used to be, which, going south, would lead to the lake, which would lead to the forest, and eventually the sea/beach. Here's how I could see it:

    Desert |Grassland
    Mountain |Lake
    Swamp |Forest
    Ocean |Beach/Ocean

Something like that. See what I'm saying? Maybe add a river from the Lake to the Swamp, and the Swamp to the Ocean?

That is a painfully complete reconstruction of the entire thing......I will wait for a second opinion, no offense (not that I won't redo it if everybody agrees).

Hmmm... It really all depends on whether we're willing to give up what we already have for the sake of quality. NyteFyre's concerns are definitely valid, but they won't be as obvious as it seems because when seen in game the maps will seem a lot bigger. Another idea which was toyed with long ago was that each section was a standalone floating island in the air and something akin to a cable car connected all of them. That might take a little less work since you could take what you already have and split them.

Well, one block is 32x32 pixels (one block being one piece of grass etc) and the big trees I believe are 4x4 blocks. So you can use those as to compare, I guess somewhere between 2x4 and 4x6 (blocks)?

Wow i havent seen this in a long time...
I'd do the cable car thing but my pc's currently dead....
other than that i like it, Nytefyre has a good idea too but yes i can see how that's going to be a lot of work, i think like some minor changes would be good for the safari (cant currently think of any)...
as for the cable car using the one from RSE as a reference (granted its the side, but) it should help out with making the cable car.

    nice...
btw i think i might try my hand at it too when i go back home...
we have a pc downstairs that has minimal stuff of mine on it still...
so i can try dont know what all i'll be able to do though...
other than that how exactly would the cable car work when dealing with multiple parts of the safari zone like that?
cable cars are normally for going up and down mountains, but this one i'm thinking is gonna be more than just mountainside...

Well, the safari zone entrance is in Dynamo Gardens (iirc) which is a floating city. So, all of the cable cars connect to a different place down on the ground (that's what I'm picturing) or to other floating habitats. I suspect I will get it done tonight, although the cable car sprite will undoubtedly need some sort of revamp.

This is just to look at the use of the cable car and the wire. Don't worry too much about the rest, it's not done.

Ok thanks reli. It took me about 2 hours.......I had to modify the entire sprite to make it compatable. @BTG--Feel free to do a couple. But I call the snowy mountain area; I have plans for it. Also, please don't take too many.....this is my only way to really contribute to Topaz so far!

The sections aren't going to be connected except by cable car, as far as I know. Maybe one or two. Also, for the marsh I suggest using the 'puddle' edges for the water, because I think it makes sense to be able to walk in it.

Yeah, thing is though that puddle edges are grass (doing this on a rom, it's easier). I know about the cable cars, I just couldn't decide where to put it, on the mountain (no visible entrance just steps -> Building) or where the oddly colour patch of grass is.
