wow....
@cranky: have you ever thought about hibernating it a few times? hibernating pcs saves what you're working on in a temporary holding area then shuts down and it's a heckuva lot faster to start up and shut down than doing it normally....

@zero: even so, the amount of pcs we've got now will keep us going for a while, but i also doubt that they're the only ones with HDs that we import, i believe Japan and China are areas where we do the same thing, and of course there are places within the US that make them as well (though possibly a bit more expensive than being an import)

I see it's been a few days since i posted....
anyway came by to say that I blame my sister for this....
I'm finally getting back into the pokemon mess (yes listenin to pokemon music, and I'll start playin my games again still need to get the rest of them pokes, and work on my fan game ideas)
yeah my sister was playin Pearl yesterday and then started playin HG today and i'm like O.o music is stuck in my head..... wat the hey get back into it cause it's been forever...

also I'd like to point out that I've been working on a information guide for pokemon--it's a collective info guide meaning RBY to BW and I might need help with that at some point (also need to remember where I left off)----oh and it'll house info from other pokemon games such as Pokemon Stadium, Battle Revolution (where i'm gonna need the help) and related...

PM me if you've got ideas or want to know what the full thing is about---and before you ask it's only the cannon games not the fanmade ones, sorry but there's way too freakin much info dealing with the fan games and as it is Topaz and similar games still need loads of work done to be completed....
I love Topaz but can't make a guide with it (esp since i don't know what all's going to be in it). The guide is designed to help those who liek to play the cannon games including some of the console games that they can trade with.
Forgive my little rambling there, just thought it'd be nice for people to know about this info is all...

Yo virus that sounds awesome. i'd be down to helps you if you need it and i believe i still have pokemon stadium and collisium [<--- i dont know how to spell that... (-_-)]

Merlin
12-12-11, 08:46 PM
nice
btw I was playing sapphire the other day and chatted with Giddy and he said LUNATONE is so sunny. Don't you agree?
lol

also been looking at and working on the guide: i'm seriously going to need help determining the set up and layout of the danged thing.
the format it's currently in is html as the family pc doesn't have internet i just use my web making skills regularly to be able to remember how to make sites and so i used them to make a guide--it's all 1 page and it's really freakin huge so I'll have to figure out something to narrow it down.
I'll transfer it to my flashdrive today (i meant to yesterday but I was up a bit late workin on it so i just went to sleep afterwards)...
Also those of you interested please let me know if you've got access to Black &/or White cause info for them is gonna be needed as well...

minor edit: btw i wish to point out about how it is very embarassing to forget your own password concerning a site and usually when you are the admin to that site...
please ingore my stupidity thank you...

Hey Guys, what about the SOPA Bill? It can stop Topaz?

ImmunityBow
12-14-11, 11:19 PM
From what I understand, we have nothing to worry about unless we get a warning first from Nintendo. After that we could just make our own sprites of the canon Pokemon (an arduous task, but doable) and that could probably account for the rest of the infringement.

Merlin
12-19-11, 10:22 PM
yeah plus none of the governments could really regulate the net all that well anyway, it's regulated by each company and corporation well enough and again Nintendo has to know this site even exists for them to say shut it down...
so long as you're not trying to resell their games or say that you own them you're fine...

EDIT: BTW FOR THOSE OF YOU WONDERING ABOUT THE SOPA BILL: IT'S PRACTICALLY ILLEGAL ANYWAY. Congress has no right to try and police an entity (for lack of a better term for it) that not only exists everywhere but is used by everyone. I understand congress wants to stop piracy but it's being policed by most people who own the websites anyway. Besides if congress doesn't seem to think a battleship is fiscally possible then policing the net sure as h*** ain't fiscally possible on anybody's budget. (at least not on the scale that they want it on)....

btw sorry for my little bit of ranting there thought i'd fill some people in on a few things....
nother thing: congress is currently unconstitutional from this: they cant step on businesses when trying to determine what's right and whats wrong....

alright so i need to figure out something
where should i put my little info guide?
do i keep it here on this site? (if so where should i put it?)
or do i put it on my site (currently there's not anything on it except like 4 people)

if it goes up on my site i'll post the url in my signature
btw url not link: difference? it won't be active you'll have to copy and paste...
and it'll only be up there for a while then i'll remove it, but i need to know if that's where it should go

[also if this should go into either the questions area or in a poll--please let me know, because i don't want to mess things up, thank you.]

What have I gotten myself into.

Today: 7 hour rehearsal.
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday rehearsal. Ack. Sorry if my contributions are limited to commenting on yours for the next week. I'd really like to get the pokemon.txt entries for the demo done so maybe if I work on it like 2 things at a time I'll have one done for next week. And help there would be appreciated.

And I just got back to Michigan from Baltimore, Maryland. We didn't win the robotics competition there, sadly. =/

I was just thinking about when I came to Topaz, and I realized that I have no idea why I joined. I've never shown interest in fangames, at the time I wasn't really a fan of 3rd-gen, and my only online presence was my email account, which I rarely checked. Clearly, there were higher forces at play.

We're putting on Urinetown.

Did I read this correctly? I didn't notice the name of the play when I read it before.

I don't get why people hate on Fan-made games. Yeah, a lot of them really sucked, but when made correctly, and with dedicated members, a fan made game could top a Canon game any day!

Just thought I'd let you guys know, lately I've been hanging on this site called The VDex Project. I only joined last week, but I really enjoy it, and have been advertising Topaz in my signature on the forums. You guys should hit check it out, maybe. They allow advertizing for non-commercial sites in your signatures on there. :3

That's not what I meant at all! In fact, I just got a demo for a pretty cool fangame, I just meant that I had always stuck to canon up until I came upon Topaz.

Alright I have a though here: I just changed up part of my account so that i could see the newest posts at the top of the page (just to try it out) and in order to reach the quick reply i have to go all the way to the bottom. Is it possible to set it up to move to the top of the page when someone switches over to the newest posts 1st setting? (btw I don't exactly know where this should go I just thought it would fit in here since it's kind of a general thought.)

ImmunityBow
06-08-12, 09:11 PM
Hm I don't think it works because I think quick reply and the posts are separate elements, so unless you do some heavy scripting it'd be at the top for everyone. But zeroality's really the one who can comment on this.

Merlin
06-08-12, 09:18 PM
ah okay, well i was curious if it mighta been possible without having to restructure teh entire site is all.
also i thought it was interesting to have to go to the bottom of the page for it when the posts are up top.

NyteFyre
06-08-12, 09:50 PM
Uh, Virus, I think you have your forum settings strange, then, cause for me, and probably everyone else, the newest posts appear at the bottom.

Merlin
06-13-12, 12:03 AM
well if you go to your settings, general settings, thread display options you can choose linear - newest first (puts the latest up top), linear - oldest first (latest at bottom), threaded or hybrid, i chose the latest 1st to see what it would do is all

Cyn’s Insights:
You know you have a problem when you’re exhausted but you force yourself to finish a story…that you don’t plan to show anyone for over a week.
You know you have a problem when you get angry at your stomach because it keeps growling. “Really, all you think about is food! Can’t you see I’m trying to write a story here?!?”
You know you have a problem when you’re two stories into a series but have plot jotted down for another dozen.
You know you have a problem when you’re three stories into a series and are trying to figure out, if each story is like an anime episode, how long would a story have to be to equal a movie?
You know you have a problem when you start to appreciate how the words “You know you have a problem when you” line up perfectly on a page.
You know you have a problem when you have seven of these in a row. And I’ve only got six. Must be fine.

Seriously, all of these happened to me on the same day (today). I should go to sleep.
On the other hand, I've still got some story-ing to do...
And there are interwebs to explore...

I don't really think there's a problem with a lot of these, except not eating. I'm sure all of us experience most of those thoughts at one point or another.

Cyndadile

It's a relief to know that I'm not the only one who feels like this sometimes... but I still wish that writing and I could have a better relationship.
It's a love-hate relationship. I love to write. I hate my writing. I like to think that I can come up with a good plot, good twists, decent characters. And when I put pen and paper together and start scribbling out my ideas, I'm pretty satisfied with the results.
It's the computer that makes me angry. For a start, I don't like typing things that I've written on paper. But also, it seems like the computer makes my writing worse.
Example: I type out a nice, two-page story (or Topaz Adventures episode). As I'm typing, I occationally have trouble wording things right, making my meaning clear, and putting the right double entendre into areas that need more than one entendre. I correct, adjust, and fixate on certain sentances as I go, making the work take much longer than it ususally would but (I think) improving the quality of work. I love this part. It's mostly a pure flow of ideas, like my brain is flowing magic writing juices out through my fingers and squirting them all over the monitor.
Then I reread my work. I notice things like unvarying sentance structure, over-clarification of points, and overused words. I try to fix parts that seem rushed, slow, abrupt, or out of place. I focus on thing that I would never notice in anyone's writing but my own. It's like a puzzle, trying to fix all the things that are wrong. This isn't the part that I hate. This part's fine, just part of the process.
What I hate is that I'll do this over and over again. Every time I read my work, I'll see something that I did wrong, a place that the wording seems awkward or a group of too many sentances with the same, boring structure. Even when I finally feel I've reached an acceptable level of wordcraft, all I have to do is wait a week or month or a year, and eventually it will all seem wrong. It sometimes makes me angry when the people I ask to revise my stories don't notice all the glaring errors that I see.
That's part of why I like releasing Topaz Adventures as small episodes. I'm obligated to release them on time, so I have to put them out whether I'm completely satisfied or not. Which I never am. But once they're on the internet, I never have to read them again, except to check for and fill in any plotholes. It's nice to complete something and have no choice but to let it be.

Feels kinda nice to type that out, even though it doesn't really change anything.

Yeah i have to agree with IB there we've had a lot of these if not all (cept i never had the stomach problem, mine is i'm hungry i eat), writer's and other storytellers have these problems a lot (and i'm up there with the writing notes down on a dozen other stories without even finidshing 1)....

changing subjects here:
MESPRIT FREAKIN SUCKS!!!!---okay more of an annoyance more than anything else, i've got it down in the red and paralyzed (which now that i think about it i shoulda put to sleep instead) and it still runs away (even with a poke with arena trap holding it there) ultraballs and quickballs seem to be the only ones that get the closest in caputing it.--i needs another masterball (used up mine on Dialga and a traded on on Heatran)
I did luck out the other day and catch cresselia (yes i'm still playin diamond, 1st time through--played since '07) course i needs SS and either black or white (region looks good but not a lot of pokemon do sadly...)
also is the black and white sequal 6th gen or still 5th?

Reliability

It would be 5th. There is no full generation of Pokemon coming out with it.

Just realized that I recently beat an inactive member's (Quinn's) postcount. In celebration, I'm getting a new laptop!
Actually, that second part's not true. I'm getting a new laptop for college, not because of postcounts. Although I will finally get PO and get on that Topaz+Other People server thing, and I'll be able to get that RPG Maker XP 30-day trial again, if we could use another person putting maps and stuff together.
In case anyone cares (for example, someone who may need a new laptop [IB]), it's a 14-inch Dell Inspiron Ultrabook. I can't say if it's any good, though, since it still hasn't shipped...

Ultrabooks lack raw processing power generally so if you're looking to compile massive monstrosity code then it'll be fine but not optimal. I was actually looking at an Ultrabook myself: a Lenovo Ideapad. Lenovo's a generally good company so it might be alright.

Cyndadile
07-29-12, 03:15 PM
Well, I'm hoping that my code will be usable by people without massive proccessing power.
Also, if it doesn't take forever to compile, when do I get to have fun?
http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/compiling.png
Also, my college's engineering department should have more powerful computers if I need to do anything massive.

Merlin

might i suggest getting a different dell? I've looked at a particular portion of their site and found various PCs designed primarily for gaming (don't expect much cheapness though i'll post the prices) they've got some major processing power so if you need something done these should work.
well dang:
M11x: $1199
M14x: $1099
M17x: $1499
M18x: $1999

i was expecting a little cheaper than that, sorry bout that--btw in case you're wondering the numbers represent screen sizes i believe

Well, tomorrow GLaDOS is getting a demo of RPGMXP, so I'll finally get to see and work on some of our maps. I'll probably get a full version later (in an unconventional manner). That should increase my productivity.

Also, I've downloaded Pokemon Online, but haven't really tried it out much, and I can't locate the Topaz/Turquoise/Ever Grande City server. Is that down, or am I just being incompetent?

Today, the world was supposed to end. However, that did not happen and I got incredible luck today.

First, I go onto PokeFarm and see an Egg I forgot to hatch. When I hatch it...

SHINY YAMASK

Then, not even five minutes ago, I hatched a Legendary Egg I had Summoned on PokeFarm. To my utter surprise...

SHINY MANAPHY

This and the fact that I just now heard that the Mother series MIGHT be rereleased in America (from a friend) makes tonight anything, but doomy.
