In that case, I've made a two more, one of which is basically using the same colors, just inverted. The other is, well, just another recolor with less clash between colors.

OK, I'm gonna be VERY blunt: you are not helping in the slightest here. You are essentially backseat modding, IMO, and even if Zero/IB deem you not to be, you are not being constructive at all with what you're saying. Drop the "I know everything" attitude, now. It's not helping new users want to stay here.
Oh, the irony.
@Noog: Infinity is correct: you'll save yourself a lot of heartache by saving as png's. jpg's decrease their own file size each time they're saved, which degrades the quality of the image. If your using MS Paint, you can also save it as a bmp, which will convert to a png when hosted on imageshack (or whatever site you use).
I won't be able to make a complete judgment until I see the png version, but your first one in your latest post looks fine. The yellow may need some more saturation though: it looks a little bland and has potential to be a lot more sci-fi flashy, if that makes any sense.
@Infinity: Though everything that you said is vaguely correct, try to tone down the way you put things to extremes. Saying things the way that you did in this post (as an example) is coarse and unhelpful because it does not say WHY these things have to be the way they are. Stating these facts without backing them up is frustrating to some people, which is why you are getting negative reactions sometimes. If you can't back up a statement that you make, people won't listen to you.
@Pikang: Every accusation you made towards Infinity, you are guilty of as well. In this instance, you also are not being very constructive and are coming across as "knowing everything." If you want to offer advise towards other members and improving their posts, it may also be prudent to do it through PM, or at least contribute to the topic in which you are doing it. Not everyone is experienced at writing clearly as you may feel they ought to be, but censoring them is not an effective method of correction. To use your words,
If you can't say something nicely, don't say it at all. Otherwise, you risk coming across as elitist.
My apologies, Reli, but I need to talk with you in private. But not now. I need to get some rest.
For one...I gotta say PWNED. HAHA. If anyones a moderator, its mejk jk jk. I'm not that cool.
As for the sprite...I'll see if I can make the 1st "contructive critisim" on it.
...hahaha. Ironic, I made one actually like that too Noog. When I was more active. Now...yours does look a lot better, but when I think about lasers, I think laser tag. I can't remember what this item is actually called, but for one...the 1st one seems too desaturated, as the 2nd seems too dark. I think lasers as bright neon per say. If your going for the gunlike feel, change the handle a bit, possibly put a scope, and add some "button" that can let off the laser. Color wise, you could keep it original and go with say...a REALLY dark, grey black gun, BUT with a couple of glowing green lights on it, and the beam released being blue. Or vica versa, to keep the red laser junk staleness outta it. You understand my big rant?
and sorry bout that not so friendly welcome above...we can sometimes be a hecktec bunch, but we are ALL pretty good people. I too was there in your state. Dont mind the stuff too much, and if somethin gets to you, tell me. Whenever I can actually get on again...I'll pwn em MYSELF(or you can get a Mod or admin, probably your better shot. Haha)
DO U LIKE WATER????? then u like 75% of me.
Water type is the god of all. Johto will always be the best region ever (though topaz's Caldera & Kirant will be 2nd)
In the end the main issue I have with the sprite is that it doesn't really embody a "Laser Lens" so much as a "Laser Gun." However, Laser Lens is rather vague, so one constructive thing we could all do is describe how we see a Laser Lens.
Some suggestions:
- Lens implies an optical device, so it should look like it would fit right onto a Pokemon's eye. So, main parts could include an eyepiece and whatever is holding the eyepiece to the wearer. Everything else is decorative.
- The sprite doesn't necessarily have to include the laser itself, since that's hard to depict without looking cheesy.
- Green matrix lines could be a good motif to use for decoration, if there's enough space.
A combination of a monocle and binoculars, with a bright green color. Maybe a red button. Monoculars?
One thing I find is that green and red don't go exceptionally well together. Maybe black would be a better colour.
hey I.B. do you still have that fossil i made....
cause i was thinking sence they are ice age based they should be ivory in ice?
I'm backish, i think at least
I do!
I don't think it matters much (how would one carry around ice other than Nevermeltice, lest it melt?)
could i do it for the heck of it?
I'm backish, i think at least
they are now on my stuff folder alond with my venamp consept art
so come check it out
[sorry for double posting]
I'm backish, i think at least
Sorry, what stuff folder? I checked your profile and there's no album, and the fossils link I have were uploaded anonymously, I think.
okay here it is![]()

Next time use the direct image link instead of http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/32/newfossils.png/ - you can get that by right clicking the image and either "view image" or "open image in new tab" and copying the address.
As for the sprites, not bad. They need work but I'm not sure where to start since I don't sprite. I'll defer to someone else here.
The main issue would be with how they lie. If you picture it in game, it looks not-quite-pinned to the wall. If it were leaning backwards more and the thickness was directed more to the bottom right, it would then have the same positioning as the other items in Pokemon.
yah i relized that right after i put them in image shack but there are beter ones in my stuff folder now (i made sure i did it right)

Here a sprite for a X Special Defense (I think X Special Defend a better name), I use a brown pallete, and I hope you guys like
A Classic is something that acquires the eternal aclamation: yesterday, today and tomorrow.
This is a very nice looking, almost professional sprite. My only problem is that I believe we already have a finalized X Special Defense sprite. Someone correct if I'm wrong, please. Maybe we could compare the two, and pick the better of them. Idk, this should probably be taken up with IB.
I made this because I look at the items sprites page, and the X Special Defence doesn't have a spreite there, so I did one...
I use GIMP to make the sprite, it's a very good image editor, almost as good as Photoshop, and it's free!
A Classic is something that acquires the eternal aclamation: yesterday, today and tomorrow.
How about my Solar Cell?
I work with some sprites from Megaman X 3, and change the pallete to something more Pokémon Style, I can make some changes, if you want to
A Classic is something that acquires the eternal aclamation: yesterday, today and tomorrow.
The X-Special Defense is a recolour of all the other X-whatevers, so in the end it doesn't matter whether we've really finalized it or not. We definitely had a sprite before though.
My main gripe with the solar cell is that you can't really tell what it is without being told what it is. Which part is which? How are you supposed to look at it?
I see the Solar Cell as a glass ball with a photosensitive mechanism inside, a mechanism that absorb sunlight, becoming a glowing yellow thing...
Yeah, I totally lost it, but it was a try, and maybe I come up with a different idea
A Classic is something that acquires the eternal aclamation: yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Hey, all I have to say is it's good to see people trying. We always welcome anyone willing to try.
I can sort of see where you're going with this, but maybe you could just go with the first half, and leave out the glowing thing? It's only an item sprite, so it's not going to be animated, so the glowing part can be left out. The first half sounds fine. Maybe you could re-try it?
I make it more simple:
A Classic is something that acquires the eternal aclamation: yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Hmm... this way it kind of looks like a watch or a bracelet to me. Not that the solar cell couldn't be a watch or a bracelet, I guess. I'm going to have to take a closer look at it to see if there's something that can be done to make things a little more obvious.
Since the X Sp Def sprite was lost, we can use that one.
Solar Cell could be good with improvement. If you got rid of the 'wristbands' on the 'watch' and made the whole thing bigger to fit the space then it would kind of look like a solar cell from Utopia: Creation of a Nation (Sim City-esque game).
Not sure how it'd look in the end but you could try that.
I got rid of the "wristbands" (actually, it was a pair of plugs, but doesn't matter), and now looks like a little sun on a glass ball
A little adjust on the colors (man, I can get no satisfaction... about my sprite)

The concept works and I like it, but I'm not quite sold yet on the execution, mainly because it looks so flat. I'm going to try fixing it myself, but feel free to beat me to the punch if anyone gets some inspiration.
How about now?

It still seems flat. There just needs to be far more shades flying around to simulate the shadows produced by a sphere, in addition to the light that exudes from the core. It's pretty complex to sprite, so it might take a long while to get.
Personally, I've always thought the Solar Cell should look more like solar cells used in the real world. The pictures on Wikipedia's site can be of some help.

Helpful tip of the day:
Want to become a great PI? Always remember to zip up your pants.
I did too until several people tried it and it just wasn't working for everyone, so I find Eduardo's concept interesting, being that it's a cell containing a sun, thus a Solar Cell.
I redid the Laser Lens sprite, this time with the Wide Lens as the base. I also deleted the laser line thing, as it was rather tough to add it considering the position of the sprite.
(Despite the file extension, it's saved as a .png image.)
Hmm, It's a nice attempt, and the colors are nice, but we really dislike re-colors of previous items. However, i don't think having one big red lens really exemplifies what a laser lens is, in my opinion. Maybe it would look better as a clear lens with cross hairs, and/or computer code, since it's probably gathering data, and displaying it as you look through it. At least, that's what I feel the laser lens is like. Sort of like a Scouter.
X-Spec. Defense is allowed only because RSE didn't have the special split, but Topaz does, despite using Ruby as it's programming language. Plus, it's part of a set of preexisting items from RSE. Just thought I'd go ahead and put that out there for anyone curious about it.
How about this? I added a little panel to the side with what's supposed to be some sort of code. The crosshairs didn't work as well as I would've liked, but here it is:
You know what? I think that if you edit it a bit it might actually work out. Try removing the handle, reducing the thickness of the frame, moving down the body, then adding some antenna or headset elements to it, and you might just have a laser lens there. It'll be extensive but it might work.
Hi i was wondering if you have a list of items that need to have a sprite? cause i may be interested in springing one up XD!
