Here you go:
Laser Lens - Allows Normal and Fighting type attacks to hit Ghost Pokémon.
Magic Herb - If an attack can inflict a status condition, the chances of it doing so are tripled. One time use.
Sacred Veil - Extends duration of Light Screen, Reflect, and Water Wall to 8 turns.
Solar Cell - Negates charge for Solar Flare and Solarbeam at cost of 2 PP. Weather other than Sun cancels out effect.
Toxic Slime - Inflicts Toxic on opponent when holder is hit with a special attack. One time use.
Something like this?
Almost! I'd still like it if the thickness of the frame was reduced, and if it was a little more obvious how the Pokemon would hold the lens (I think creating some kind of a hook or something so it looks like an eyepiece would work well) then it'd very likely be good enough. Could you also post the image of the item this sprite is based off of?
Thanks Noog!
Sorry for taking a while; I was busy.
Anyway, I made the frame around the lens a little thinner, and added a hook/clamp to hold it in place on a Pokémon's head.
The thickness reduction works, though if possible could you increase the size of the lens itself to compensate for the decrease in size? That should make it easier to discern. I'm currently undecided about the hook/clamp, since I'm not quite sure if I can picture it attached to a Pokemon, but I really need a little time to figure out what would indeed be better.
I don't think increasing the size of the lens itself will work very well, as the frame is already 1 pixel wide.
I mean increasing the size of the lens by extending the lens and the frame, not at the expense of the frame.
Here's a Solar Cell I made from scratch.

BTW, how do I attach images? (I lack the knowledge)
Hit Reply to Thread or 'Go Advanced' button on quick reply and the post page has a "Manage Attachments" button. You can use that to add attached files to a post.
If they are already hosted on another site, you can just use to make it show as an image.

Thx, zero. So, how is the cell? Is it OK? Should I make it a lot more smaller? Oh, wait.......

Just in case the attachment doesn't work, I have added a link. This is the smaller version of the Solar Cell.

It's still too big. Item sprites are 24x24.
I also kind of liked what Noog had going there...
Here we are, a magic herb and a new solar cell that looks so small it's hard to see the details.
http://crankyguy.deviantart.com/art/...herb-264751375
The herb is a recolor (srry IB,) of a choice (was it choice?) scarf. I dunno how to make it more magical than that, except maybe if I add some sparkles to it. but it really is small and sparkles would just.... be strange.
http://crankyguy.deviantart.com/art/...gain-264751916
Once again, I attempt the cell. This time, it IS 24X24 so I am quite happy. but it is so small though.... I might try to make it a few pixels bigger next time.
Once again, again, link is just in case the attachment doesn't work right.
one more thing, how do I save pictures as PNGs? (I really dunno....)
I'm not sure if paint can save in .png. But try looking around the options in "Save as..."
I think there's already a Choice Scarf recolour which has been at the very least sprited, if not accepted. The Solar Cell has something that could be described as "Picasso perspective," where you see too many sides of the object at the angle that you are looking. Try to imagine how it would look like if just sitting on a table or something.
Just sitting on a table is what it is currently doing, only it has a stand which makes it strange.
I made another one with a strap instead, but it's a pretty cheap strap. Anyway, what do you mean by the choice scarf recolour? Is there already a magic herb?
There is already a contender for the Magic Herb sprite that is a Choice Scarf recolour.
I don't think you quite understand me. When you look at something at an angle, there are sides you see and sides you can't see. In your earlier sprite you could see sides that you shouldn't have been able to see. This sprite doesn't have that problem, but instead has the cell floating in the air. Most item sprites show a resting image though, not a floating one.
Oh I get it now! Thx IB. I will try to fix that. Here is are two new magic herbs. Which is better? It is NOT a choice scarf this time. In fact, if you can guess what it is, I'll give you a cookie.

I just had an idea! why not give some of these evolutionary items that have no real impact, other than evolution, a secondary effect, until used up for evolution? It would make them more viable, and useful for more of the game. The Blessed Ankh has one, but why not the Twilight Crest, or the Rivalry Orb, or the Evolution Stones? Other than for trade, it's kind of pointless to have a Pokemon hold these items, if they can't evolve from it, or benefit from it...
Tentative List:
Icy Stone - Boosts Ice Type attacks +1 level
Twilight Crest - Increases Duration of Night effect by 5 turns, or Boosts Dark Type attacks +1 level
Rivalry Orb: White Half - Boosts Zangoose's and Zantildae's attacks +1 level. Causes Swagger-like effect after 5 consecutive turns of use.*
Rivalry Orb: Purple Half - Boosts Seviper and Pythang's Attacks +1 level. Causes Swagger Effect after 5 consecutive turns of use.*
Rivalry Orb - Boosts Zangoose, Seviper, Pythang and Zantildae's attacks +1 level. Causes x2 Swagger Effect after 5 consecutive turns of use.**
Other In-Game holdable items could also have effects, as could other Evolutionary Stones based upon their type. A.K.A., Flame Stone would boost Fire types.
This is but a small consideration that I think would be nice.
*This is caused by the small amount of enemy taint within the that particular half of the orb
**The Complete Orb would cause a doubled version of Swagger, confusing for twice as long, but boosting attack by 4, due to the equal amounts of each color.

it is the cling claw or wat ever all i know is u get it in the land shark cave
i am so sad i should know the name of the land shark pokemon
oh gible cave!!!!!!!
I'm backish, i think at least
Lol, I think he meant what item he got the colors from.
The Arctic Stone is a use item, not a held item, kind of like Fire Stone, Thunder Stone, Leaf Stone, Water Stone etc.
I like the Twilight Crest's effect.
Rivalry Orb makes you feel bad for using it to evolve Zangoose/Seviper.
How so? I see it as a Risk/Reward Item, and it's not gonna disappear once you're done, right? Also, this way, it will help you to evolve them faster, and have a use for the pieces while you journey to put it back together. That is, so long as you can get on or the other on the way through this.
Also, which Twilight Crest Effect? I posted two up there.
I know that the stones are use items, but they CAN be held. I just thought they could use a small extra effect while held.
Twilight Crest: The first one.
Rivalry Orb: I thought trade-held items get used up once the Pokemon evolves?
Stones: No need for that, +1 level is really strong if you're going to give it to Fire, Ice, Water and Electric-types. And then what would you do for Sun Stones and Moon Stones?
Hmm...I distinctly remember having a discussion with you, or someone else (though I can't find it) about the Rivalry Orb NOT disappearing after you use it, that way you could get both Pythang and Zantildae. There is no trading between human players in this game, so without extra In-Game trades or the item not disappearing, it would be impossible to fill the dex without allowing for a second Rivalry Orb or extra Twilight Crests.
Also, the Twilight Crest has more or less the same description as the Rivalry Orb, evolves upon level up when held, but doesn't specify if it disappears upon evolution or not. So, which is it?
I guess I don't know. It wasn't discussed officially IIRC.
I have SLUDGE!!! Two versions of it, to be exact.
You mean Toxic Slime?
It does look like sludge. I don't know why I'm expecting sludge to look appealing but it doesn't quite strike a chord with me as a sprite. I can't understand what the darker shade is doing, the widths and stuff are just really jagged and don't look quite natural/appealing.
But it can't hurt to use it as a sprite for now, at least until another attempt is made.
Another attempt has been made. It's slime in a vial. I also just want to ask, do you think the vial should have been full? And what about the herb?
Last edited by Cranky Guy; 11-21-11 at 03:35 PM.
???
I can stand by a vial, I think. The main problem being with both sprites (yours and BTG's) that they are both very flat.
The herb doesn't look plant-like enough to me.
I tried my hand at the Toxic Slime...
...and the Sacred Veil.

How about this piece of toxic slime? I like tyrannigon's veil and slime, but I still don't know how to make slime not flat.

I think he meant the vial, not the slime, that looked flat.
I also tried the Magic Herb, but I wasn't sure which of these would be better.

On all counts the vial of toxic slime just don't have enough volume to it. You need more glass highlights and shading. Glass is always difficult since if you don't have all the requisite shadows and highlights it looks super flat.
I like Tyrannigon's Magic Herb, the last one. I would prefer the leaves beneath to be less symmetrical though.
Sacred Veil looks pretty decent and is almost there. I think the aura looks a bit tacky and if you could attempt some texture to make the veil shimmer it could be really great. It's also a little too bulbous in shape.
So, I took your suggestions, and here are the results:
Toxic Slime:
Sacred Veil:
Magic Herb:
![]()
To make it shimmer dither the shading... a lot. Works good (kinda).
Tried that, didn't work so well.
Toxic Slime: Looking better, waiting on other people's opinions. It isn't very clear what the pattern of the slime is doing ie the dots seem rather random.
Sacred Veil: Yeah I know I've always had problems when I try to dither. I still think you could stand to straighten the end, it just seems unnatural. When you hold a veil, it falls with gravity rather than making curves like that. The sprite beyond that is quality enough.
Magic Herb: Why don't you try making a three-leaf base for the bulb? I think that will be a bolder, better defined and more natural shape.
I don't mean to be rude but the toxic slime doesn't look really toxic to me. It's a LOT more better than mine, I have to admit, but I just cant see what's toxic about it. No offense.
