I'm posting this thread to see if our twitter feed is working. You can view it at http://www.twitter.com/pokemontopaz

- Tabbed forum home, you can click on each tab to view that forum category. General is default. I don't know how popular this will be so post if you like/dislike.

- Extra navigation tabs at the top.

- Fixed member title in postbit and removed that blank div

- Username markup is now enabled and shows just about everywhere

- Tweet to Twitter, tweets new threads

Edit: Nope, the twitter feed isn't working. I'll troubleshoot it later.

- Users that have not selected an avatar now have a default one. Maybe ImmunityBow will finally use an avatar on Topaz!

I don't like it. It seems like that gets in the way of finding where you need to post, and it is also nice to see all of the threads with new posts together without having to go through 10 different pages.

I don't see why the twitter feed is necessary, isn't it just as easy to come here and see everything?

Maybe ImmunityBow will finally use an avatar on Topaz!

Yeah, good luck with that one :)

That will be all. Thank you for your time.

It will help attract a new audience from Twitter, and also helps with search engine rankings. Backlinks and all that.

I'll wait and see what others have to say about the tabbed forum home.

It took me a second to get used to, but I actually like the tabbed forum home. I think the only downfall is that new threads/posts might get missed if somebody doesn't check the appropriate tab.

I also agree that Twitter would help in bringing in a new audience. We really need to get the activity back up and this could be a great way of aiding that problem.

Thanks for the work you've been putting into the forums, zero. Can't wait to see the skins you have in store for us. :P

Nifty. Let's see what I can find as an avatar...

I must say, I really like the tabbed forum home. Twitter's cool I guess, especially if it might help boost activity.

Edit: ooo colored names are back

Im dont like that it goes back to general disscusion every time you post. Everything else is cool.

Could you change it so that people can choose their own default tab?

Could you change it so that people can choose their own default tab?

I actually suggested that as a feature request. The author hasn't responded yet.

I'm still not sure if I like this tabbed stuff yet.

zeroality
02-07-10, 07:01 AM
I am actually clicking the 'New Posts' link at the top to see new posts as opposed to checking the forums like before so I don't know if that's good. I guess we really don't have enough forums to justify the tab, unless we added a text rpg. I haven't been happy with the progress, or lack thereof, with getting Topaz on Orange Islands. I say we dump that project and bring it over here. We definitely could use the boost. I can make calculators (will need algebraic formula) and whatnot to make everything easy. I can even install MODs to streamline some of it, like Sub Forum management and I'm sure I could find more suited for the RPG.

I can add custom fields for profiles and a form for people to 'register' in the RPG. The only thing is getting enough active RPG moderators. I'd say we would need 4 to start, at minimum. Anybody interested in this, or interested in playing?

Black Temple Gaurdian
02-07-10, 02:15 PM
If the's a calculator provided I could update. I have lots of free time (just don't let my prents cath me saying that). Well, I go to school at 7:45 and come home a 6:30, with bed at 10-11ish. Buto weekends and the looong holidays I get, I'm on pratically evey minute. And quite board too.

Uh I guess id be neutral on this. It sounds like there is a lot of stuff already on the site right now.

SilentSentinel
02-07-10, 10:10 PM
I have to say that I'm against it. Putting the TRPG on Orange Islands gives us tons of publicity, as they have a bunch of members. They have a calc already, with all the sprites uploaded, and some people over there are revamping Topaz pokes for fourth gen moves. There is progress going on to get it in OI, and I think it would be tough to find enough people to be Mods.

I installed another MOD after I found myself checking the forums to see who had logged on to see why nobody was coming to IRC. >_>

So anyway, this displays the members logged in the last 24 hours. I'll probably look at the code and see if I can't make it 12 hours or something better. It's below Who's Online.

Just chiming in to say that ImmunityBow is heading the production of the RPG itself over at OI (we're handling the moveset revamps). Whatever progress (or, as you mentioned, lack thereof) that happens is on his shoulders.

zeroality
02-12-10, 04:50 AM
Yeah, I found that out after making my post. Anyway, MOD has been updated - now shows 12 hours instead of 24. Turned out to be an easy edit.

02-13-10, 08:09 AM
Minor edit but "Remember Me" is now checked by default when you log in. I've added another MOD but it isn't working so I've disabled it for now. The coder is going to come and take a look, which is why there's a 'testadmin' account. That's also why it shows 'you last visited on:' near the top.

SilentSentinel
02-13-10, 07:52 PM
Is the thing that says how many unread posts you have a new one?

zeroality
02-13-10, 10:51 PM
Where are you seeing that?

Edit: Oh, ok I see it now. I guess the coder did come and fix it. :) Yeah, that is the MOD I couldn't get to work. Cool.

Edit2: Topaz FAQ linked at top of forums. Hopefully that will make it more visible.

I've been working on the Midnight skin and the index page is almost finished. If you want to take a look and comment/suggest then go here (http://www.pokemontopaz.net/forums/?styleid=3) to view it.

Switch back to default or false dawn after you're done looking though because you won't be able to read forumdisplay or threads yet.

I've decided that since it is an enormous pain to edit skins on vb4, Midnight will be the only one that I am doing. If they make it easier to edit in future versions then I'll do the Morning skin.

<~zeroality> ugh editing vb4 skins makes you want to take out a shotgun and go to each developer's house and methodically murder them

Ooh. The new forum icons are really nice!

zeroality
02-17-10, 11:00 PM
Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what's causing the white background in the corners at the top. It's not the image.

Anyway, I made a slight edit to the Unread Posts modification. Forum Games is now excluded. The reason for this is because posts there are frivolous and endear no real discussion (and come rapidly). You will still be able to manually check that forum for new posts by checking the post status icons on the forum index and threads will still be marked as unread when you click on the forum.

A reminder, posts are now NEVER marked as read unless you actually 'read' it or click Mark Forums as Read. The flag also expires in 10 days. So if you don't visit for 10+ days, you won't see any 'unread' posts older than 10 days. Before thread-marking status was based on cookies, now it is in the database - which is what the MOD needs in order to function properly.

zeroality
02-18-10, 06:57 PM
Yeah, I just put in the forum subicons. I also moved Cemetery because - meh you said it. I also did a minor edit on the quick login at top.

Brought back an old feature that was on PR, special messages that appear for guests, users awaiting email verification, users who have never posted and users who haven't posted in 14 days. I have a few other things on my to-do list before I get back to working on the skin. Which I am avoiding like the plague.

Cyndadile
02-18-10, 09:53 PM

Notice anything different? :D

Edit: Minor change, removed the Calendar link in the navbar links below the index tabs and added Mark Forums Read link. I keep going to the 'unread posts' search page then going back to the index before hitting mark forums read and have to click on that stupid dropdown menu to get to it or scroll down to the bottom.

Mediocrity_Incarnate

Is that the news feed I see back up?

oh snap

I'm also working on eliminating the need for the iframe (which displays the feed) altogether since I learned about using {literal} tags in the CMS which allow you to input code directly. If it works out then we will be able to change the color of the news feed boxes with the skin selector as well. :D

zeroality
02-21-10, 07:19 AM
I put up logos for all 3 skins (they're the same, just different backgrounds). I'd like some feedback on how they look and any suggestions/comments you have.

I will add a link to the main site from the image later. Probably have to patch on a transparent gif since the logo is a background image.

We have decided to make the Topaz tab the default, since that is the main focus of these forums. I updated them with subicons and rearranged them a bit (got rid of Complete Topaz Info forum and Previous Gen Pokedex Entries is now a subforum of Caldera/Kirant Pokedex). Announcements forum was moved over to the Topaz section.

I also updated the Topaz FAQ and added it to the Forum FAQ (http://www.pokemontopaz.net/forums/faq.php).

Just added a transparent image over the forum logo so I could make it a clickable link back to the home page.

Sorry for taking so long to upgrade. The truth is, I was feeling a little light-headed so I went to lie down and fell asleep for 6 hrs. I'm working on re-customizing the templates and am looking at our MODs to ensure they work on 4.0.2 before re-enabling.

Edit: The visible MODs have been fixed; except for custom pages (the rules/irc), the latest posts/top posters (had to uninstall that completely, wasn't compatible with 4.0.2 but I did find another mod which I will play with later), and the Welcome Headers (guest message) hasn't been checked yet so it is still disabled.

A couple of problems with the current MODs are:
tab menu has 'whats new' which cannot be removed
unread posts shows excluded forums' names despite permissions

Edit2: Custom rules/irc pages fixed. I wanted to add a Rules tab to the menu but until 'whats new' is removed, I can't. Fixed most templates - Vanilla/False Dawn should be normal. Midnight needs its custom CSS edits re-implemented.

Contributor color changed to a different shade of green, I think it looks better.

Edit3: Added user rank images for the staff groups and added nifty rounded corners/shadows to the postbit which only shows up in Chrome or Firefox. Here's how it's supposed to look:

http://www.pokemontopaz.net/zero/postbit.png

False Dawn is going to need some tweaking to get it to look good and Midnight will probably have to resort to black shadows like the forum home.

Mediocrity_Incarnate
03-03-10, 11:53 PM
I really like the rank images.

NyteFyre
03-04-10, 12:05 AM

ImmunityBow
03-04-10, 01:55 AM
I have a small objection to the use of "Staff" instead of "Contributor". I don't want new members thinking this is a closed affair that they have no hope of helping out with, and as such "Contributor" has been given quite liberally. Staff is current, binding and responsible. Contributor is just a recognition for what this person has done. I realize Contributor is more difficult to make fit but I believe Contributor is more true to what Topaz wishes to be: a game for the people, by the people, rather than by an elite staff.

Otherwise, awesome changes. I really like the contributor bars, which are small, bright, clean and neat.

zeroality
03-04-10, 04:48 AM
I guess I could make the font smallah.

zeroality
03-05-10, 05:21 AM
I guess everybody's noticed by now but the latest stuff box is back on the bottom of who's online. I think this different coder's version is way better, although I'm not sure about the dotted line in the middle. Should I change it to solid? It's a simple css value change.

Since it's been about 2 weeks since the release of 4.0.2, I went to check out the latest mods and found a few I liked and might be implementing but one caught my eye that I had to do right away. It makes the last post date/time in the same row as the posted by username on forum home.

Apparently the bold names are causing it to wrap sometimes though, so I am looking into shortening the forum name/description column to accomodate it.

Edit: Also, what do you guys think about this mod (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=233514) to stop signatures from the same poster from showing up more than once on a single page?

Edit2: Changed the linked IRC Chat on both forums/site to a descriptive page that links to the actual chat. Hoping to reduce the number of guests joining/leaving without contributing to the chat.

Even if you have your credentials saved, coming to the site directly through the URL pokemontopaz.net/forums (without the index.php) will have you as not logged on.

I always have the leading http://www on my bookmarks; those were implied.

For what it's worth, I regularly clean all my caches, so I know it's not a problem with my caching.
