Did you check to see whether each of the planned abilities were the first of the Pokemon's? You can check in the pokemon.txt topic. In any case, I ran a check and the values for ABILITY for Growlithe and Scorchion should be 1. Also, you can leave the gender value blank unless you really want them all to be male for some reason.
