    Default Concept Art by Reliability

    SURPRISE!

My brother's drawing tablet was collecting dust for a while, so I figured "why not?" I tried it out Thursday night and made Eglair. I proceeded to make Mallarge last night and finished up both this morning. There are some obvious issues ( the mysterious white edge) and I haven't really used any tool other than the paintbrush (in Photoshop Elements 5), but if I do say so myself, it isn't bad for a first effort.

    Comments?

Wow those are pretty cool. They a lot different from our other ones which is good. I think that if you were to do what you did on eaglair to bakurge it would be really awesome.

Eaglair's really cool! I really like the pose and expression, and the textures you got aren't bad either. It looks great!

Mallarge I don't like as much, but it's still pretty solid.

Their style, pose, and overall look are great. Their dimensions are a bit off though.

I think Mallarge's proportions are fine. Eaglair's head and especially its beak is gigantic, but it doesn't look out of place.

Anyway, I like the art. Are these sketches or the final versions?

They look pretty final to me.

And @Reliability: Don't worry, for my art I mostly just use brushes too. Layers, brush tool, magic wand, eraser, marquee, maybe layer masks and colour balance, that's about it. Of course Pencil tool as well for sprites.

Go right ahead. I probably wont be making changes any time soon, and we can always update them if it happens later.

Since I'm back home for reading week, I have access to the drawing tablet again. I don't expect to do anymore this week though, since this took me pretty much all afternoon.

That's pretty cool. Just wondering, why do we need these sorts of things?

They are used in advertising banners, aid in any additional sprite making, draw people into the site, add to cool factor, can be used for site design, etc. etc. There's lots of reason to have concept art.

And Coroona is quite nice, it plays to your style well, Reliability.

Other than it being incomplete, I fully agree.

I'm surprised no one said anything.

I wasn't saying we didn't need them, I just wanted to know what reasons there were to have them. Thank you, IB, you answered my question.

I have it on my computer obviously, so there isn't any need to do that. I'd actually prefer if you didn't do that.

Just FYI: there isn't much need to save Topaz stuff. It's not like the staff/mods/admins are incompetent or anything. Well, except me.

Great job Reliability! I feel bad that your art hasn't been featured very much (at all, really) in my designs. I'm planning new stuff for the forums so I'll be sure to remedy that oversight.

@Tyrannigon - good art makes fat web designers/developers like me happy. Without Topaz Art, I wouldn't have awesome stuff to put on my designs and pages.

Also, speaking of advertising banners here is an example:

Just something I whipped up real quick when I got Topaz a month of free advertising on the Pokerealm NFE competitive battling website (no relation to PokeRealm.net) after I donated the pokerealm.com domain to them.

I didn't expect anything in return but they were giddy with excitement and offered me that, so I made that banner while doing cartwheels and eating a bowl of ice cream.

It's not hard at all, with the "unread posts" thing - which is exactly why I put it in.

I would actually prefer to keep relevant discussions in their own threads instead of cluttered up all over the place.

So don't ever hesitate to start a new thread for relevant discussions.

    BAM

Not super proud of it, but I lost all motivation to live halfway through doing the stripes. I also JUST thought of a better way to do it, which I wont manage to remember when I go to do another one of these. Brilliant.

Cool. Seems a little head-heavy, but I like some of the textures you have going on there. It's cool how you shade through all those strokes and fur.

The head seems awkwardly shaped. Other than that, I like it better than your Mallarge and Eaglair, but not as much as your Coroona.

I like it (also are you using paint?) but for more of a horse/zebra pokemon I am kinda feeling an anteater vibe from the anatomy. I can totally understand if you don't want to redo it and like it as is but I think what would give it a more horse-y appearances is longer legs. Right now it looks really close to the ground.

You definitely picked a fairly hard Pokemon to draw, in terms of detail. I think you did well with it though.

I think it ended up being so head heavy is because when I originally drew it, the head was tiny in comparison to the body. I must have overcompensated with the head and undercomponsated with the legs, thus anteater.

Photoshop elements 5. Layers, the ability to control tool sizes and opacity being the only real reasons. I could do it in paint if I really wanted.

I might try another over the next few days. Suggestions?

Allufang or Kunagia. We don't have any art for them (at least none that's on the site).

I like it! It looks hungry, but the head doesn't seem too "heavy".
